As of now 5:30 pm I have added another 100 crunches and 100 leg lifts another 20 minutes of stretching and climbed 120 steps total. I am using small mounts of food to reward myself for working out . I have eaten 3 pieces of cheese and a piece of s...

I am so sorry that you have had such a horrible experience. In the first place remember the Dr. works for you not you for him! Being stern with you is one thing but being nasty and abusive is an other. I have to wonder about him if he told you not...

Your doc sounds abusive, and you need to make sure you don't become "exercise anorexic." Don't listen to the f'er.

That's crazy. You need a different doctor, I'd say. And a diabetes coach.

Note:in the hour that has passed since I posted this I did 20 minutes of stretching, 100 crunches, 100 leg lifts, climbed the stairs 4 times (52 stairs) and walked in place 50 steps. The goal for stair climbing is 300 per day. and the alking in pl...

So on 5/13 I had my glucovance increased. The dr was appauled that I had been on such a low dose. The low dose hadn't been doing much. He raised me to glucovance 5/500 2 pills twice a day. They make me horridly sick. With the low dose I had some s...

Hi Ryan, Good for you! Second Lucy's suggestion to get Dr. Bernstein's book. His "Diabetes Solution" is a great resource. I've found better recipes on-line at low carb sites than his The Diabetes Diet, but it does include a lot of good info. Al...

Oh thank goodness I am not the only one! Yes I have noticed over the years certain things I used to love are now just very sweet ( like frosting and regular soda). I am working on portion size. I am the kind of person that doesn't eat out of hunge...

Ryan: A great place to start is The Diabetes Diet by Dr. Bernstein, which should be available at most public libraries. (It's back ordered at my local book store.) Bernstein's book contains some good quality low-carb meal recipes. Also, you can st...

So depressed

So on 5/13 I had my glucovance increased. The dr was appauled that I had been on such a low dose. The low dose hadn't been doing much. He raised me to glucovance 5/500 2 pills twice a day. They make me horridly sick. With the low dose I had some side effects but they went away after a few days. These were not going away and after the first week my sugar kept dropping very low ( 40's and 50's) for no apparent reason. There was a 24 hour period where it just would not stay up no matter what I ate.… Continue

Exercise anorexia would be exercising to the point that you are obsessed, and do it at the expense of missing out on other stuff, like family. But, you also don't want to burn out to where you don't want to do any anymore. If you have only one doctor available, then make sure to ask him not to yell, or let him know when his comments are inappropriate. Maybe try to find someone else, or see specialists.

Hi Ryan..I'm sorry to hear you are still battling the flu and you are having difficulty getting a good DR too! It's very important to have a good DR that is up to date on diabetes care. Is your new DR an Endo? At least your new DR sounds open to trying something new with you. If you do consider insulin pump therapy make sure you understand how to count carbs correctly and get the book the Calorie King. It will help you greatly. You can get one at calorieking.com or on Amazon. If you have type 1 and your old dr had you on pills that was crazy because you can't treat T1's with pills! But if you have T1.5 then maybe that was why. I just learned about 1.5 here but know there are similarities with both T1 and T2 with it. Yes there are many people here that can help you!!! I would first look into groups on here and join several such as the LADA Diabetics group. Go through the forums and start reading posts and responses and also add a post in the forum yourself to get other peoples opinions as well on any topic you want. Take a look around the site and get involved..you will be glad you did! I promise! You will learn alot and find many people that understand how difficult and frustrating this is! Hang in there and I hope you get better soon! :)

Hey there..good to hear from you. Yes I am a pump user and I really like it..wish I had done it long ago since I have been T1 for over 25 yrs now. It sounds like you are a type 1.5..I actually just heard of that on here for the first time! Manny Hernandez who is the founder here is type 1.5. I believe I saw a group on the site for type 1.5 so you should check that out too! Yes I have only one child and decided to only have one b/c of the diabetes. Just happy to have had one child myself. I cant imagine having 5..wow you really have your hands full!! If you have any other questions about the pump just let me know. I added you as a friend so you can send me an email here too if you want! Have a great day! :)

Hi Ryan..Welcome!! I'm new here too since about a week ago. This is a great site! I read what brought you here and that you have the flu. I hope you get better quickly! Make sure you keep a close look on those blood sugars. I'm sure you know how crazy being sick can make them! Take care! :)
