Just tell them that glucose tablets are the preferred medication recommended by most health care providers for the treatment of a medical condition called hypoglycemia. They are an over the counter medication just like aspirin, loperamide, etc. When…

Speaking as someone who has been using porcine insulin since I was diagnosed (30 years ago), I'd say go for whatever suits you best (based on your diabetes specialist's advice of course). I was on Pork Insulatard and Actrapid until 2 years ago when…

Hi Sam I noticed that you were taking metformin along with your insulin.
I've been doing this also and found that its really helped to cut my insulin dose!
I'm glad endos are seeing this work for some of us T1's. :)

Hi Sam!
I noticed you were on insulin & metformin. I've heard a lot of good things about metformin. What are it's side effects and effects on daily insulin therapy? I'm currently using a pump...... I'm wondering if it could work for me.

Hi Sam, Im a fellow Porcine insulin user. I started out on Pork Mixtard 30/70 when I was first diagnosed (age 14, now 37) and stayed on pork for the duration till about 5 years ago when I was put on the Nono Rapid and Lantus, but had a terrible time on it, and have now chnaged back to the Pork (now called Hypurin Porcine Mix 30/70). I am greatly relieved to be back on the Pork, but where as before on the pork my control was very good for the majority of time I was on it, but Im finding this new make stuff seems to be taking far too long to kick in for me and am having to sit out highs, when Ive hardly eaten anything. I went back to see the nurse but was she was not much help. Im dreading the whole process of possibly having to chnage to a different regime but I want to stay on the Pork, so Ive been looking for other Pork users to get some advise on the different regimes ( and types of Pork) and how they get on with it. I note that you experience pretty good control without too much problem. Id be really greatful if you could inform me abit about your regime as Im thinking about changing from the Porcine Mix, unless theres somethign additional I can take with it if need be (ie a Porcine fast/short acting). Im finding that it seems to be only peeking once at the end of its duration, and taking what seems like forever to kick in, and I dont remember having such problems on the old Pork Mixtard.

Hi Sam, congratulations on your outstanding A1c - although it looks a little bit scary to me. But it seems that your BG is smooth without too many lows and this is a big achievement with shots. Holger
