Is A1c Becoming Irrelevant?

Posted on September 20, 2010 at 1:00pm 18 Comments

from my blog Don't Fear Diabetes

If there’s one number, one test that strikes fear and loathing into the hearts of diabetics everywhere, it’s the A1c. Not only is it the main number used to diagnose diabetes, it is the measuring stick wielded

by doctors, CDEs, insurers, and diabetics themselves for evaluating our“control”. But are its days numbered?…

particularly over at TuDiabetes

Hi!

I'm actually going to be working at the Students with Diabetes table, so I cannot help you out this weekend. However, I'm looking forward to the event and I hope we get a chance to meet!

Your product sounds excellent.
Thanks for offering!

Chris - Lorraine says you surf with your dexcom. I am a surfer and have been trying to figure out how long I really can be out in the water, how do I protect the transmitter (to you cover yours with something other than a wetsuit?), and how long have you stayed out? Can I go out for half an hour and then come in and dry it and then go out again? Please share if you feel like it. Dexcom people can only say what they have FDA tested.....and I swim in swimming pools as I am a triathlete.....and I do not want to lose the transmitter......any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
