Tell us more about you (optional)
I am more or less a native of the Bay Area though I feel an allegiance still to my birthplace of New York. My itinerant life has led me many places, among them Moab, Utah; Rennes, France; Seattle; London; Germany around the time of the falling of the wall; Oxford, England; New Mexico; Vermont. Since being diagnosed I've lived in Istanbul, Turkey, been through a yoga teacher training program (mainly to deepen my own practice, though I have been a teacher in other fields), finished a few MA degrees in English/Writing/Theater and been an occasional activist. I'm a big believer in exercise and yoga! I was 33 when I was diagnosed with "juvenile" diabetes--but I'm sure I'm still on a bit of a honeymoon from what I read. I'm pretty sure I have LADA (though not every endo has called it that). My pump fell in a creek last summer (I am an active person!) and it shouldn't have stopped working, but it did. I was getting by on multiple injections for about 4 months until I got it together to get a new pump (I was doing OK--but not great--and it was so much more stressful having to worry about shots!) Anyway, I'm happy to start the new year with a new loaner pump at least and a new diabetes community...

Welcome to the family! On this forum you will learn so much. Most of all you will learn that you are not alone. Everyone here is supportive and will provide answers to your questions. Search the site for answers. Read the discussions and blogs for information. There are videos to help you understand diabetes and its treatment. Most of all there is family to talk to and even to vent to, if needed. Welcome home.
