not about diabetes

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 10:52pm 0 Comments

winter storm blew in from the north, we live right on the north end of the island so when storms roll in from the north we are right there on the bow of the boat so to speak. sounded pretty violent out side could't see anything except salt spray as it hit the windows. no lights just the wood stove for heat and the wind can find all the little holes in the house one that I can't find when I look for them in the summer. we do not often think about how far north we are in the seattle area. sure… Continue

just t learning about using the technology, I started this rant on the what are you doing comment place and now I have found my way here. Hassling with insurance lately. It pushes my face into the whole being diabetic thing Yes I am fortunate to live in the twenty first century. Continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps, laser photoocoagulation, dialysis, high tech insulin. We are fortunate if we can find ways to access/pay for it. Life is stressful enough without test strips, batteries,… Continue

Hi thomas. It is good to hear from you! I am glad you check your page here even if it is not very often. It sounds like it has been hard for you lately. My sister has fibromyalgia and I know just how painful it can be. She had to retire early and it really had an impact on her life. She has found that gentle daily exercsise, and a nutritious diet with lots of fresh vegetables and no processed food, low carb, helps. She tried Lyrica, and Cymbalta and the side effects just were not worth it. She became even more fatigued. Tramadol helps me, I have myalgia, which is muscle and bone pain without the trigger points, and that works well, but is hard on the liver. I just use it when my body hurts bad.

I can't believe it is the New Year already! I bet you are worried about financial stuff, especially with our economy and all the fiscal cliff problems, Things are hard as far as money goes. I hope your sweetie gets her disability claim. If she gets denied, make sure that she appeals, it usually works the second or third time.

How is Jasper? I have some bad news, my sweet Suri died. She had a tumor in her nasal cavity and was having a hard time breathing. It was very sad to put her down. I was having health problems at the time and it was really hard to lose her. I am feeling better now though, finally. I had to take off work for a few months, but I am finally back again.

Now I have a new cat. Her name is Zen, and it took me a while to get used to a cat, because I have always had dogs, but she is turning out to be great, and I am enjoying her very much. She is black, has green eyes, and had a little bit of white on her chest.

I feel pretty happy that we didn't all bite the dust on December 21st! I heard on the news that in Mexico they turned the Mayan ruins into a theme park and made millions with all the visitors on that day!

I do kind of feel a "shift" is happening. Time seems to have sped up, and it seems like here in the US that people are starting to wake up. I think that there will be a lot of changes for the better in the years to come, less materialism and more acceptance and coming together is my hope.

So how are things on the island? I bet it is cold and snowy where you are. We have had some terrible storms on the east coast but they always miss me because I am between the mountains and the coast and far enough in from the water and far enough south to miss all the action.

For Christmas we had just a little snow in the air, but mostly rain. I have the weekend off and Monday and Tuesday too. I am going to see Les Miserables tomorrow morning with a friend and then to lunch. I think 2013 will be a very interesting and memorable year.
I hope you and your loved one start feeling better and that things go well for you in the future. AreI hope you are still enjoying your walks on the beach? It was really nice to hear from you. Lots.

Hi thomas, I have a son, Jesse but all grown up, he is 20 now. I was diabetic when I had him but just a newbie so I felt pretty good raising him. I feel so bad for the families with kids with diabetes too. I guess they adapt to it because they love them so much, love with get you a long way, and resilience. I know that must be very hard on everyone though, a lot of stress. I am glad that you had a nice trip to your dad's . I am meeting a lot of guys who like to cook. I am lucky too because my partner is the cook around here. I don't go in the kitchen much, so he rules in there. It is so nice that you are happy and content with a loving wife. Sometimes seems rare today to find that. We are having cool weather now, quite a quick change, it seemed to turn to fall overnight. I am about ready to look for the first frost. Take care thomas, I am always happy to hear from you and your interesting tales of life on the island, pet Jasper for me. Suri is doing well, up to her usual shenanigans. Lots.

Hi thomas, always nice to hear from you. I am happy that you are busy, that tells me that you are feeling well. We have had a pretty nice summer so far, and have had some nice days where it rains all nice and cools things off for the next day. It has been the best summer that I can remember for many years. I spend a lot of time at work in the air conditioning all day so I am not noticing being too uncomfortable. I usually don't get out of work until after 6 and it has cooled off. We are supposed to get some trouble today and tomorrow with Hurricane Irene. It is just moving in on us right now, the wind is getting stronger and it is getting ready to start raining. It looks like we are going to have a pretty blustery weekend. I had planned to go bowling today, but that is not until this late afternoon and by then I think that the weather might be a factor. I would hate to get caught far from the house and end up in a big storm.
I hope that you have a nice time on your trip to Indiana. I bet it will be nice to see your dad. Maybe you will get lucky and have some nice weather. Give Jasper a hug for me and stay safe on your trip. I am doing okay, a little to busy as well for my liking with work. I am trying to learn to speak Spanish to help me at work, since many of the clients that I work with are Spanish. It has been awhile and this time I am going for fluency so I am going much deeper into this project. I have been spending a lot of time on it so I don't get to Tu as much either.

Hi thomas, I know what you mean about the computer sucking time. I am glad when you do come to check out your page though because it is always nice to hear from you. We have been lucky this year so far it hasn't been the usual oven and sauna effect. It has been raining a lot during the nights and cooling things off, but today was a hot one for sure. I am lucky because where I work I have my own window and air conditioning unit so I can pretty much make my own temperature choice. By the time I get out from work it has cooled off enough to enjoy sitting on the deck and watching the sunset. I definitely think that the way you live sounds particularly wonderful. I am a nature person for sure. I am glad that Jasper is keeping you happy. I hope that things are going well for you and that you continue to enjoy the summer. Peace to you.

Hi thomas, always glad to hear from you, I was thinking you gave up on the net. Ha, I like that Junuary. I think that I would like it there now, I like cool weather and even winter. Here in VA it has been like a sauna, 100 degrees and humid but yesterday we had a huge T Storm and today was actually chilly and windy. Jasper is probably gorgeous now. He is a beautiful dog. Suri is a best dog too, she is so awesome, She never does anything bad and she is sweet and well behaved and she listens. I checked out where your place is, wow that is rustic for sure. Clearing that will keep you in shape for sure. It is right there on the water too. That is so cool. How many people live on the Island? Bummer about your hands. I am getting arthritis in my hip joints and have an office job. I have to keep walking all the time so I don't end up walking like a granny, we can't have that happen now, not yet anyway. I am feeling for you, with the diabetes, I have only had it for 22 years. I haven't had any problems, just hypothyroid and cataracts, that I had fixed, I feel for you with the gastroparesis though. I know that must be hell. So happy you wrote, have you read any good books lately or are you too busy clearing brush? Peace back at you, take care.

Hi thomas, sorry to hear about your landslide and your nasty neighbor. I hope that things don't get too out of control with that. He doesn't sound like a very nice or cooperative person. I also hope that what he has done with the brush doesn't cause further problems or that he will be made somehow to stop it if he continues to do it. We have had a lot of rain on the east coast and finally today it is sunny and nice out a perfect backdrop for all the flowers and blossoming trees. I am going to take Suri to the dog park today to play with her buddies. She is very friendly with other dogs and loves strangers unless they come in our house, of course. I bet Jasper is getting big. I hope that the D is treating you well. I have had better than usual control lately, a happy surprise for me. Have a great week. Lots
