I have a close friend who has the D and was told by her doctor to switch from the Omni Pod to the Ping. She is wondering the difference between the systems and if there is a steep learning curve.…Continue

"Oh, yeah, I have diabetes"

Hello Friends, it has been a while. I have been mighty busy with school and getting together with friends. I have recently connected with a group of young-adult Christians and have spent a lot of time with them. None of the people in the group are diabetic (either t1 or t2) so I have had to explain myself a bit in some circumstances. Thus, I have to share/vent what took place.I was invited to go serve in the breadlines in our city to help the homeless/disadvantaged. Ok. I love doing things like…See More

South Beach Diet

Hello All! I have exercised for a relatively long time (about 2 years). My weight has stayed about the same. Thus, I am considering a more "intensive" low carb diet. I have been on a willy-nilly low carb diet on my own, but I have not perfectly followed "my" plan thus, I am considering something more conrete. I am considering the South Beach Diet and I am looking for opinions. A) do you think this is a good diet, one that works? B) does this diet work well with exercise? C) is there a better…See More

The Eve of A1c...

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 6:11pm 2 Comments

I'm sitting here, thinking. I am looking at the lab orders I have for tomorrow mornings fasting blood work. I am focusing on the letters A1c. It's the first lab order -- of course it's in alphabetical order. All I can think about is 'first is the worst'. Since the summer, I have had to devote more time to school and thus, less importance on the D. Is there anyone else out there nervous about their A1c? I think I have reached D burnout. I need someone to tell me that my A1c does not tell the…

Oh Happy day

24 hours ago, I was pacing the floors in my house, concerned and anxious about what my a1c would be. Today, I found out. After much work, I was concerned that it was going to go up from my previous 7.8. That would not have been good. But, it went down, 7.2!!!! I am so happy. I worked so hard, I have been adjusting my diet and exercising and changing insulin rates and it all paid off. I am so proud of myself. I would like to gloat for minute to share with you, my diabetic friend how I achieved… Continue
