How do you hope to benefit from TuDiabetes?
Good question?

Greetings Earthlings.

My wife recruited me here. In general I tend to just be some weirdo on the internet who happens to have the persistent annoyance of type 1 diabetes, and I often don't write a lot about diabetes itself. It is, however, interesting to at least share horror stories about this persistent annoyance with others who have dealt with the same in many ways.

'Touched' by Diabetes

Posted on December 24, 2007 at 12:19pm 0 Comments

I'm always amused when I get an e-mail from this site. A community for people 'touched' by diabetes....because to me it doesn't seem like a touchy-feely type of disease. It seems more like a kick in the ribs, a backhand punch to the face, and finally a roundhouse kick to the solar plexus that sends us tumbling down about 7 flights of stairs. You know, something you can get up from and deal with, but it still smarts.

Then, when you try and punch it back, it grabs your arm and like a… Continue

Erotica for Diabetics

Posted on July 8, 2007 at 12:28pm 8 Comments

It occurs to me that Ning, and by inheritance, Tudiabetes, has an interface much like MySpace.com. This got me wondering, why doesn't tudiabetes share other qualities of MySpace? Specifically, all those random women with idealized profiles that want to be my friend on MySpace. You go to their profile, and they're all between 18 and 30, love to have some sort of fun and want you to go to their site to check out more pictures of them. But, wouldn't it be fun to have a Tudiabetes… Continue

When do we eat?

I suppose I should go about writing something here. You know, actual content.

I've always fancied myself more of a humorist or satirist than someone who writes baleful pleas about the dire state of affairs. That said, I do think there is room for humor in living with diabetes. This past weekend, as my wife and I went out to lunch at a local restaurant, I got an embarassed and shocked look from an employee there who told me, "I can't believe you're wearing that shirt!"

What… Continue

Hey Bunions-- just found you.

Oh yes, there is definitely room for humor in this (still chuckling over your very funny first post :-).

I'll keep checking in...

Hey Bunions-
I read your t-shirt post about 10 minutes ago and I'm still laughing. I am definitely buying myself one of those - so thanks!

There's a workaround, if you feel comfortable with playing with technology. The way it would work is by using Yahoo! Pipes, basically a mechanism to aggregate RSS feeds from different sources, to create a SINGLE resulting RSS feed. What you'd do is pull the RSS feeds from each of your friends (each of the member pages has a little RSS link at the bottom the blog posts module). You combine those as part of a Yahoo! Pipe (I can refer you to one that I use myself for this very purpose, but on my personal blog, instead of here). Then you pull that RSS feed that comes out of the Pipe and paste it in the module you have access to in your "My Page" (to the left), and over time, any new posts made by your friends will appear as a feed on your "My Page" shortly after they are posted.

If this sounds like Chinese, it is a bit... :)

If you want to give it a shot, let me know and I can give u the last few pointers you'd need.

Also, for what it's worth, I set up Regional Groups, so that people can connect more conveniently with others in their "vicinity". One of the groups (just click on the tab at the top) is called "US - Mountain".

Hope you dig this!

Hey there!

I have an update for you. The folks at Ning.com (the platform on which TuDiabetes runs) are working on many updates, one of which is a New Activity Dashboard, for seeing all the latest activity among your friends.

I thought you'd be happy about this! :)

Good .... I'm glad I'm not the lone ranger in my opinions on this subject ... sometimes I think I am!
