3+ weeks on the Ping

I had a awesome first week. My SD went from 39 pre-pump to 26... amazing! Average bg was105 insteadof 125. The second week - still thrilled. SD was 29, average bg still 105. A few more highs/lows, but no biggie.

The last 10 days have left me wondering. SD is up to 30 and average bg is 116. Still rising, albeit slowly. My averages for the whole time pumping are 29 SD and 109 bg.

No complaints, but why is everything rising weekly? Haven't changed my diet (fairly low carb, usually… Continue

Discrimination in the workplace

Over the past few years, I've worked as a writer, writing installation manuals and specification sheets for a software company. When I found out I needed a kidney transplant two years ago, I advised my superiors at work and ever since, they have been trying to get rid of me. My boss has tried to make me quit so I wouldn't receive any benefits, nor have a chance to go on unemployment insurance. But they know if they fire me or lay me off it will be case of unlawful dismissal.

Now, it… Continue

Back from a long absence (again)?

First off, thanks everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday last month!!

Well, I finally found a new Endo, one that I like a LOT .... (if anyone needs a recommendation in Morristown, NJ, just ask!). I also just got my new Medtronic Revel pump and CGM. Still getting the hang of the insertion process with the CGM, and the timing of replacing that with replacing my regular infusion set. Generally I have one on the left side of my abdomen and the other on the right, so I need to make sure… Continue

Feet Don't Fail Me Now!

OK all you creative people out there. Help!

I've been trying to increase my exercise and have started adding on time on a stationary bike. As I'm pedaling away, because of my neuropathy, my foot slips off! Its really driving me nuts. Its a simple flat pedal and short of duct taping my feet to my bike . . . I was thinking of trying to rig some sort of strap that would go over the top.

Anybody have any ideas of how to solve this. I tried making a lip on the edge of the pedal… Continue

Today is NOT a Good Day

Click over to my blog for the full text.

Blood sugars are running high, which makes me feel like crap. I'm stress out as ____ because of my computer, which is driving my BG up. Then today at work is just icing on the high-BG cake. What makes this day horrible is that somehow a major dataset is gone. My laptop has been dying slowly for the past 2 months and I'm just trying… Continue

Please help ..

I really dont know what to think right now ..

I'm two weeks late for my period and to be honest, I am scared to death.

I was in the ICU for DKA in september 2010 and i can't shake the doctor telling me over and over "You can NOT get pregnant right now" I'm terrified .. I'm buying a test tomorrow, but what If I am??

To be honest, my brother had a baby last year and I used to go with the mother to appointments and I remember talking about how I wonder if I would be… Continue

Crossing our fingers.

Today Brennen is officially a pumper!!! We are all so excited! However, we are not out of the woods yet. This whole pumping thing may not work out. :( We are going to be crossing our fingers and try to stay optimistic about it. I think if everything works out, this is going to be an amazing new tool in helping us manage Brennen's diabetes.

It was really strange to go to pump training and hear the pump training nurse tell us that she just wasn't sure what was going to happen on the… Continue

How soon is too soon?

I used to think I was pretty cute and fun and a great date. And then I got diagnosed at 24. I lost some of my self-confidence for awhile because I thought who would want to deal with someone so high maintenance?? I struggle to deal with myself some days and would not want object someone I care about to this stuff.

Well I finally gained my confidence back and had a great boyfriend last summer. He was there for me through all the trying times of getting adjusted to my insulin pump. And then… Continue

3 months with the big D

And lots of major changes in my life - I've lost 26 pounds, adapted to MDI and the 8-10 (now more like 12-15) daily finger sticks, and settled into some diabetes routines. And then, another huge change - pregnancy. Unlike the diabetes diagnosis in January, this change is very much a wanted change. But still...it's a scary new world to enter, especially so soon after entering another scary new world.

I had my official 3-month followup visit to my endo yesterday (though…

Still on .06, Insurance is covering all but 25.00/pen and I've a coupon card from Victoza to cover that cost for the first 6 months...things are looking great. Numbers still down, although the weighloss is a non issue seeing as how I'm on the lowest dose. It would be nice to lose the weight all the others are talking about, but not at the expense of taking more then I need and paying the extra at the drug store I don't think.

I'm happy thus far, very much so. Took a reading yesterday… Continue

Today: Calorie Control!

Today: Calorie Control! Three adults and a young lady share the space we call home. That Lady is a 1 ½ year old boxer-blend dog, and our exercise machine. She is rather active - a 2 hour walk around town does not suffice. A good hour of running in the woods, and she might be happy. None of us can run that fast, so we walk.

Sunday was my husband's birthday, and a huge chunk of birthday cake was leftover. Too large to store in a cupboard, it sat quietly hidden under… Continue

Birthday Boy

Click over to my blog for the full text.

So it's my birthday today. My super-preggo wife told me what we were going to do for my b-day. I was hoping for the steak house downtown or maybe the italian place I really like (GREAT grilled tilapia). Maybe we would rent a movie and she would buy some chicken or thick cut aged steak from the butcher so we can have a really nice home cooked… Continue

The trip to get the dreaded diabetes report card

Yesterday was our third visit to our new diabetes center. Each time we go, I find myself watching comparing, and thinking way too much. Each visit brings new faces--new team members and new faces that you know are also living with "the beast".

We went to the same small clinic for ten years. We saw the same doctor for all of that time, the same nurse for most of that time and the same dietitian for half of that time. My son's doctor believed in pushing us. He would delay returning my… Continue

Pushing the envelope

I had my quarter meeting with my diabetologist (specialized endo) yesterday. My A1c came back with 5.5% and this is the lowest A1c I ever had. There are several reasons for this A1c but the most important one is the use of analog insulins. I have used Actrapid and Protaphane (NPH) from 1987 to 2005 with success for my A1c (around 6%) but many negative side effects. In the year 2004 to 2005 it was nearly unbearable because I had far too many lows at night (have I slept in these two years?).…
