OK so I've been putting it off week after week, but my first bill is due tomorrow for the insurance plan that I'm paying for out of pocket. I got screwed trying to get individual coverage at a decent rate (another perk of being insulin dependent) so I'm paying a super monthly premium for continued coverage. I basically have to pay back coverage for the last four months plus July to keep myself current.
Hooray.
I break down and finally call the insurance company (to remain…

So this weekend my fiancé and I went to a wedding in Iowa. He was in the wedding party and I had to follow around the men in the wedding. Being on the men's side meant nobody knew what was going on, the groom had not organized anything, and beer drinking was certainly prioritized over scheduled meals. I didn't know anyone in the wedding and felt weird asking for special accommodations to find food just for me. I did however bring a cooler with snacks to hold me over in case there were no…

My family broke down and purchased a Wii Sport console and sport games this past weekend! At first I'm thinking "another one of my husband's toys!", but after I played a game of boxing - I changed my mind really quick. It is awesome. I boxed against my husband and I laughed so hard it hurt! We boxed three rounds and when it was over, he was victorious, but we were both on the floor - breathing heavy, and laughing so hard. If you don't have one of these - GO BUY ONE! It was a workout and I still…

As I noted
in my previous entry, I've recently had to replace my mobile phone. Along with the new hardware (a maroon
LG Env2), new operating system, new firmware, and new contact-book organization system, I have a new contact category: sticking at the top of the contact list, the words "In Case of Emergency". The initial input was simple enough:…

I was blessed this Sunday morning by spending time on the seat of my bike, out in the Cathedral of my Creator's own Construction. The privilege of seeing his creatures, in their element, as if there were no human civilization for a 100 square miles has filled me up with praise, and truly humbled me in his presence. I am so glad to have lost an hour of sleep to experience these moments! God, You Are Good!…

Friday was a bad infusin set day. That morning I changed my pump like normal, and everything went fine. Later on the adhesive became loose, so I put tape all around it. Eventually it comes out. (This is all happending while me and my band are playing music for the youth group) So I call home get a new infusin set, and my BGs fine everythings good. Then me and my friends go to Canes (local fast food) and I realize the site came out. AGAIN. I eat without taking any insulin (not a very good idea,…

I am currently at war. I am at war with the blahs. Do you know what I mean? For some reason I cant get myself to be motivated about anything. If I didnt know myself better I might actually call this depression, but in truth I know that this is just another bout of laziness! You see I have recently had a major change in my daily schedule. I am what is called a seasonal employee at my job for the IRS. Dont hate me because I work for the government! Anyways I love my job, and a big part of that is…

My once-trusty Motorola RAZR V3m started doing some weird things last Friday. First, the external display would occasionally stop displaying -- or not return a display after keypress activation. Then, the internal display would go completely white. Occasionally, it would bring up a screen, go completely white, and then bring up a screen again -- but most of the time, it would be unresponsive to anything but a dozen or more hard (remove the battery) reboots.
Just to be certain it…

It's less that I have a phobia about
insects and bugs than it is that I have significant issues with
bites and stings. The short explanation is that I've had allergic reactions to most of them for most of my life, the worst of them ending up with significant local swelling.
In an interesting twist of fate, it is that allergy that ended up getting me diagnosed with diabetes and all that other nice "metabolic syndrome" stuff six years ago: I had suffered a couple of…

Jenny was kind enough to remind me that my last blog was nearly a year ago. Yikes. Talk about not actually writing a blog! Indeed, it's true when I say that I've been busy with graduate school and yes, appeals. I am all over the appeal process like the summer sun on the garden bed. Regence BCBS may have thought the summer of my request would never arrive, that the cold dark winter of denying me a CGMS was their forever-season. But the seasons always turn, don't they?
But today!!…

... about my life @ the moment :)
Last week I actually had something so crazy happen to me - I came down with
Bells Palsy.
I had never heard of it before, but I guess it is a virus that affects the 7th cranial nerve and half of your face will not respond. It is temporary. However, it varies from individuals on how long the healing process takes. I have a mild case - thank goodness!
It has all been…

Despite the alarming trends reported in
The Lancet and the mainstream news media, when you get down to the nitty-gritty of Public Health Awareness, Public Policy, and Public Health Education, it sometimes seems that diabetes is the "adopted stepchild".
A number of people in this, and other, online diabetes communities have mentioned a virtual exclusion of diabetes under the Americans with Disabilities Act. (Many of us feel we would be better served…

I finished Olivia's quilt square for the "Quilt for Life" - part of CWD (children with diabetes). Her quilt shows a little bit of everything - importantly, all of her favorite things!! There are over 600 quilts that will be displayed in Washington DC on August 4th and 5th. My family will be attending this event. My Aunt lives in Arlington,VA only about 10 minutes away so we are planning on making it a mini vacation and going to see some of the…

Both my daughters are taking swimming lessons this summer and I admit that I am amazed how exercise plays such an important part in diabetes management. I make sure I check Olivia before she swims and try to have her be above 200 before lessons start. She is on low doses right now (probably because of her age and because she is still Honeymooning). She gets from 2 to 3 units of Novolog at Breakfast with 1 and 1/2 units of Levemir. We think that she is currently experiencing the Dawn Phenomeon…

I've also posted this on the
Events page.
This picnic meetup is on Saturday afternoon July 12th. It is being held on the
Beaverbrook Reservation in Belmont, just outside of Boston. There is no rain date.
This is a great chance to get together with others who have diabetes and trade ideas. Perhaps even meet some of the d-bloggers…

Well it happened, I am pregnant! My husband and I knew we wanted kids and we knew we wanted them pretty soon. I found out I was pregnant on 04/13/08. I am already 16 weeks and things are going great! I haven't really had any morning sickness to speak of and I had my lowest A1C since I have been diabetic. I am so excited because I know how important it is to take care of myself as well as my baby and I have been trying really hard. We find out what we are having in four weeks. I cannot wait! My…
