Does anyone have any good diets that are good with losing your gut. I run, but know I need to diet also. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

My Pancreas and My Appendix Were in Cahoots

From my Blog Don't Fear Diabetes

So I thought this would be the week (I thought the weekend even!) Would be when I caught up on all my travel writing/blogging. Then, friday afternoon, a little nagging pain started in my abdomen, growing

over the night such that I could barely sleep. Saturday, after

unsuccessfully trying gas x and laxatives, I went to urgent care (an

overly generous name for what is provided there in my…

My Sad, but Funny, History With Carbs

In one chapter of my book (published in March, 2010) I recalled several things from the history of diabetes. One paragraph from that chapter is given here:

"There were two schools of thought in the 17'th century. One theory proposed replacing the sugar lost in the urine by following a diet high in carbohydrates. The…

Marty had a "low" day...

Taken from The DiabeticDuo

Of course, I didn’t realise it until dinner time. (Still irritated at myself for that) Yesterday Marty seemed fine when he got of the school bus. (yes, we are still doing dry runs-I start work on Monday- and I have spent way too much time giving the bus company a hard time over one of their drivers…more on that at another time) When we walked in the house he was complaining that he wanted dinner and it was…

When I first got put on insulin shots I was using Levimir as my long lasting insulin that I took at aorund 10;00 every night. Levimir over all really wasn't for me. I was using it for about a year or so and it was increasing my A1c alll the time. I was waking up to a blood glucose of about 11 12 13...?sometimes over 15 and gooing to bed around…

Diabetic Days of Yore

I won’t forget those wise old words my Daddy said to me

As he sat down in his chair one night and perched me on his knee.

He said, ‘Son, diabetes wasn’t always so much fun,

So let me tell you how it was in 1931!’

Twice a day we’d drive to town, down to the abattoir,

Pick out a bovine pancreas and stow it in the car,

And when we got home Mum and Dad would mash that organ up,

And strain it through a muslin bag into a paper cup…

Then Dad would get some… Continue

Day One - New Pump - A Little Frustrating!

My daughter started the minimed last night. At midnight we had to change the site because she had a BG of 450. After taking out the set, we saw the cannula was bent. My question to everyone is, does anyone use a quick set and insert it themselves without the inserter "mushroom" thing. My daughter wants nothing to do with the inserter and is inserting manually but I'm nervous the cannula will always bend. Any suggestions, advice, personal experiences on this. The trainor…

Family visit

I just found out that my mother, 2 sisters and brother are coming to visit me. Actually they want to visit Disney Land and since I'm near there they said they are coming to visit me. They're not sure when they're coming, it is up to my little sister's doctor. When he says it is ok, they will come. It could be as soon as next week.

They want to stay at the Disney Land Hotel for 3 nights then come to visit my aunt. I'll have to go to the Hotel to meet them. I've been looking into the… Continue

Go With Peace

My own smile is but a mirror of those around me

My own heart merely a reflection

Not of it's true self

For to show itself would reveal

That which others do not wish to see

You sit before the warmth of your fire

Yet here I stand inside the ashes

You looking in

I looking out

Hear not my sorrow and pain

See not my weeping

See only your own reflection within me

And go with peace in your…

Hello to you all,

I saw my GP this week and she mentionned that a new byetta shot is on the market since last month. Only one injection a day ... Has anybody experienced this new shot. My GP told me that I should stay on byetta 10 mg twice a day as I don't have any side effects.
