I got put on steroids Fri for a sinus infection that moved into my chest affecting my lungs and bronchial tubes. Between Friday and this morning I went through 300 units of insulin trying to keep my sugars under control. My doctor and I were doing our best to keep me off of them but none of the antibiotics are helping. I am finally breathing easier so I am hoping that things will go easier now.
My gynocologist did some lab work on me as he thought I had PCOS. My doctor walks into the room… Continue
Hi, just curious if anyone here has ever used a direct lab service (without going through your insurance company or doctor, no co-pay but just pay out of pocket) to test their C-peptide/GAD or other tests that your primary doctor wouldn't order for you?
I've been recently diagnosed as T2, but reading this tudiabetes website makes me wonder if I'm T1.5/LADA instead or I guess I just want a peace of mind that I really am T2 and that I'm doing all I can right now by eating right,… Continue
I was diagnosed with type 1 in 2002 not even a year after i graduated high school. i had surgery in feb 2002 and ended up with type 1 with in a month due to the complications of it. I have been on the pump since july of 2007. Before they put me on the pump they told me they where not sure if it would help me or not since i was classified as a brittle diabetic and I have not had much luck with any treatments. I am desperately trying to figure things out and find a good endo not having any luck.… Continue
i don't know what i'm doing. i tested this morning and my sugar was 128. I had an egg, a piece of turkey, and some green beans for breakfast....my sugars have been high all day since then...it is frustrating. Everyone in my house just went to get some food, but I stayed back because I'm afraid to eat and I didn't want to be tempted. I feel awful because I was kind of harsh with them, and I'm usually not like that, but I'm trying to get myself on the right track and the only way I know how to… Continue
Hey everyone! How was your Thanksgiving?? Mine was great! The day after...Not so much. Lets start with Thanksgiving day. Im an Indian/Greek girl, the Indian comes from my dad, the Greek from my mom. We did Thanksgiving dinner with my dads side of the family. So instead of having the usual mac and cheese, greenbean casserole, and all that American stuff, we had Indian food. I even got to help make it! Aunt Esther helped me make the roti. Anyway, we went to my Aunt Pearlyns house. It was going to… Continue

...but I have a hard time believing it. I've got wonderful friends, the most wonderful boyfriend any girl could ask for, a good relationship with my dad after many years of struggle, and a roof over my head. There is just something that I can't get over, that keeps me stuck in a rut...it makes me feel helpless...like I'm failing everyone. I know they don't think that way, but I've always been afraid of failure.
I've had my misfortune, who hasn't? My mom passed away when I was 12, my… Continue
Woke up Tuesday having shortness of breath trying to just walk down the stairs. Called Doctor, got in to see him and found out the sinus infection I had last week didn't go away and moved to my chest. Being asthmatic with a chest cold doesn't go good together. I got put on even stronger antibiotics than the previous week, inhaled steroids, and my albuterol inhaler every 4 hours round the clock. Got told if I wasn't better by Friday to page him. Thanksgiving and again I cant walk up and down the… Continue

Well my first day on the pump started off well, then I was fighting lows before and after dinner. I think the CDE has programed my pump wrong. Before going on the pump my carb ratio was 1:15 and my ISF was 1:2 with a lot of lows. Now my carb factor is 1:10 and my ISF is 1:3 and my basal rate is 0.70 all day.
I know it is trial and error, I guess I was just hoping (you know dreaming) that everything would be smooth for me. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be cruisin and my ratios will… Continue
Well, it's been some time since I've posted anything on here. So I guess I'll update on what's been going on with me lately.
I have been quite sick the past couple weeks. I've had a bout with pneumonia. It probably started a few weeks ago. Hubby had double pneumonia. I started out with some coughing and a little bit of congestion. Nothing too bad. Nothing I hadn't dealt with numerous times in the past, on my own.
Then on Sunday, Nov. 16 is when it got worse. I had woken up… Continue

After 17 years of resistance I decided to take the plunge and go on the pump. I was having a lot of lows and wanted to stabilize my BG's. So I thought the pump could maybe help me with that and maybe give me a more "normal" life.
So after many, many months of research and many months of government waiting lists and applications I am finally on the pump today.
I chose the Animas 2020 and was scheduled for an 8am appointment today with my CDE. The Animas rep was suppose to… Continue
Well we have had our 1st adjustment in the carb / BG overage ratio. Our Dr. has us Call in after 6:00 PM (yup thats right she takes house calls!!!). So our 1st round of numbers werent that great. But it is progress and major learning curve. Especially for someone who hates math (ahem Maddy). Well Today is turkey day and we have much to be thankful for. WE are now off to eat some breakfast and take baths.
I am happy. I feel relieved. I have found a doctor I can work with! It was almost as if he had read my rant on what I wanted from a doctor/patient relationship. He listened. He let me ask questions. He was thorough and did an examination of my body - right down to asking me about my pubic hair (!?! Does anyone have any ideas what that was about? He wanted to know if I have pubic hair growing down my thighs). He's doing all the tests (I didn't even have to bug him for them). He's even doing… Continue
A couple of days ago I learned that the California State Assembly is considering AB-1893 Sharps waste, which in (if approved) will mandate that: “Sharps sold to the general public in California shall be sold with a sharps waste container Read on! →
