Hi! today is my husband's 32nd birthday... :-) and this is my 2nd day of taking Metformin, but I am worried because my morning BG is high... yesterday it's 132, today 139... but I went to bed last night with 129 BG, what do you think happened?
I have been vocal of saying that I become a worry wart every since I got diabetes, friends been telling me, just accept it and take your medicines religiously... well, I am, and I have accepted this disease wholeheartedly... I am just afraid of… Continue

Ok I talked to my Animas rep again and he ordered me a pump today. So now it is definite I am getting it. He ordered me the ir 1250 as they don't have any refurbished 2020's yet. I got it in a pretty silver color. I am so excited and can't wait to be a pumper.

I just got off the phone with Bobby, my representive from Animas. Even though they have not received my paperwork, it looks like I will be getting the pump. Income has to be under 30,000 a year. Well my income is at 9744. So hopefully soon I will be a pumper. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I blogged last night
about this technique and posted three videos showing how to take a super bolus using three different insulin pumps. You can also find the videos here
The idea behind the super bolus
is that you boost your bolus effectiveness by pre-delivering some of your basal… Continue

Medic Alert bracelet,
You have been a great friend and have never been away from me in 2 years. You have only came off during surgeries and mri's but have never been far away. You went right back on my wrist in a matter of minutes. You were there during the asthma attack and I couldn't talk to the paramedics. They looked for you and were able to get my information. You never left my side the day my blood sugar was in the 30's and I was in shock. In the e.r., they saw you immediately and… Continue

What do you do when you adore your physician, but despise his office personnel and the way it is run??
warning: long whiny post ahead>>
I have been trying to see my doc for about two weeks. I'm not crazy about taking time off from work (it has to be personal leave, not sick, and I just don't have enough right now for all my needs, so I've been putting off many appointments/tests). Last week I tried to get an appointment. The NP I have… Continue

Hi. I'm 41 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1987 right before my 21st birthday. I've used an insulin pump for over 8 years, recently started Symlin therapy and am trying to get tighter control over my sugars.
I live in Flagstaff, Arizona and work in the Human Resources department at Northern Arizona University (Go Lumberjacks!). My biggest challenge is losing weight - so hard to do when you're diabetic. I'm really looking forward to getting a continuous glucose… Continue

I have a few BG reading on the DexCom 7 that have been below 80 and high of 196....(Yesterday and Today) My kiddos and my hubby always wants to look at the DexCom to see if it's working and what's my BG..... So Far I really like this DexCom 7... The sensors....the sticky stuff really works on me...

Halloween Candy - Those dreaded two words to a parent with a diabetic child, and to all of us diabetics who have to see it in the store aisles, who have to see it in a co-worker's candy jar, and have to see it in our own non-diabetic child's trick or treat bag.
I have attached a .pdf file that is a handy dandy Halloween candy chart with all of the carb listings for most of the basic "fun" or "snack" size candies. Now when you have that little treat, you won't be thinking you are being… Continue

Well for two years I did very good with diet and exercise. The past few months I fell off the band wagon...really bad. Have a serious famly problem, on my mind 24/7 and did not even think or care what I ate. Get my A1C taken on December 7 and am now scared that will have to go on meds. Think I can get it down before then if I start now??

One of the things I miss most from my non-diabetic days is curry. Specifically, curry over starch. Be it based upon coconut milk or a flour and oil paste, curry was once one of my most common meals.
It's hard to have curry without a starch to pour it on. I've tried and it just ... doesn't work.
Luckily for me, there's cauliflower!
Chop it coarsely, steam it for about ten minutes or until cooked through, and then run it through the food processor. Nobody will ever… Continue

Again, way too much time between posts here on Tu Diabetes. Sorry for the long lapse in time! But I'm back, and hopefully will be posting around here more often.
First and foremost, the Red Sox have won the World Series - again. This may not be a big deal for people who are drawn to teams that win events on a regular basis, but to Red Sox Nation, this is a new and very long-overdue trend.
Secondly, I'm on… Continue

Had quite an adventure on Sunday. I went to the Supermarket with the intent of getting an electric knife. I have been wanting an electric knife for quite a while. I could have had one years ago but never just never bought one. Anyway, as I said I went to the market…I also got some tomatoes and lettuce. After paying for those items (this is where my story gets interesting), I went to my car and reached in my pocket for keys… Continue

Today I woke up with a BG of 147, I was so disappointed, 2 hours after breakfast my BG was 201 (had pork and beans, 3 pcs cracker and a half cup of non-fat milk), I cried and cried... don't know what to do, I feel terrible, out of anger I pop the pill into my mouth! An hour before lunch my BG was 161... I felt secure for a while... at 3pm while at the market, I felt sleepy and weak and hungry, my husband ask me if I wanna go to Mcdonald, I definitely said yes! When we arrive, I went straight… Continue

Team "Beat the Bete" is going to do the ADA walk again this year. In fact, it is this coming Saturday. WE have about 10 - 15 people
walking with us and we will all be wearing the "Beat the Bete" shirts I
made last year except for one difference. I want to add a statement
about diabetes on the front of each shirt.
I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
This is the logo I made for last year.
I would like all of them to be different but I need (or I should… Continue
