Overnight Hypo

On Wednesday after my youth group, I took the bus to the end of the line, two miles from home. There's a bus that I can take from there to get home, or I can walk. I decided to eat an apple and walk. So I did.

When I got home, I said to myself that I'd go to bed if my blood sugar was between 100 and 160, but that if it was lower I needed to stay up to watch for hypos, and if it was higher I needed to watch and see if it would drop/ make sure the correction wasn't too much.

It…

My week

Well this week has been full of ups and downs. Just want to thank Sri, he read my blog and contacted Animas on my behalf about an insulin pump. Turns out they have a financial assistance program and also do payment arrangements and they are supposed to be sending my the paper work for financial assistance so I might get the pump after all. That would be so wonderful if I could get on it. I am now working 6 days a week, Sunday is my only day off, but I am supposed to start getting every other… Continue

F1 World Champion

Kimi has beaten Lewis and Fernando to the 2007 Drivers' Championship by one point. He was 7 points out going into the race in Sao Paulo, and third on the grid. He jump by Lewis on the first corner into second behind Felipe, this team mate, who he ultimately jump in the second pit stop for the race win, and the title. Whoo-hoo..!!! :)

Primary Care Physicians?

My transplant doctor tells me I need to see a podiatrist. Every diabetic needs to see a podiatrist regularly, an ophthalmologist, an endocrinologist, a you name it, give it a specialty and we need to be there. I'm tired of seeing specialists. What I want is to be a blissfully ignorant completely healthy never needs to see anyone but her comfy little family practice doctor once a year kind of gal. Fat chance.

Not even Fat Chance, No way Jose (which btw is my transplant doctor's name… Continue

"From Bagdad to Houston WE'LL walk anywhere to find a cure!"

Well I walked yesterday for the first time in 5 years. I am glad I did. I am now an advocate for JDRF (I used to be but since moving so much it got hard to do that) I raised 3x more then my goal. and I know now I can say

WE WILL FIND A CURE! ONE DAY WE WILL BE ABLE TO SAY I USED TO HAVE DIABETES!

THANKS TO THE 75TH INF DIV(and all the other units that donated to JDRF!) OF THE US ARMY and US ARMY RESERVE "From…

Cellphone Hello

My cellphone belts out a hearty incoming call

ring, from an unknown caller.I quickly pull into the florist's parking

lot, and press "Send" on my phone.

"Hello?"

"This is Dr.X, can I speak with Heidi?"

"This is she."

"Sorry its taken so long. I had to consult with Dr. Surgeon. So, you want to hear about the test's results?"

Swallow, lick lips, grip steering wheel, inhale. "Yeah."

"Your MRI was…

New form of diabetes is CRAP

Today officials at the American Diabetes Association were surprised that CRAP has become the new name on the Internet for what had been known as Type 1 diabetes.

Speaking off the record a senior member of ADA staff was puzzled to know what CRAP even stood for.

TuDiabetes members will know that the acronym was first coined in one of the… Continue

Buying a Kayak

After weeks of renting a touring kayak with my son, I'm ready to buy! found a great Kayak store way up in Warren County, NJ with the best showroom/selection I've seen ! I'm sold on a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 12.5 ft boat. A good, stable all around touring kayak.
Anyone else out there on tudiabetes go kayaking? I'd love to compare notes!

Yay!

I got my pink UltraMini in the mail today. I really like it. Easy to use and very nice. I also love the lancets and the device as it doesn't hurt nearly as much as the other one I was using.

So yay for nice new meters!

Relax and watch TV...

Well, here I am watching some TV in the evening time. JoAnn is here too, feeding Charlotte. We are watching "Back to You" on the DVR. It's not a bad show, and Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton are great...

Also, if you get BBC America, check out Robin Hood, MI-5, and Ultimate Force. All great shows... :)

Possible Surgery

Well today I had to go for an arteriogram and mri on my shoulder. My orthopedist thinks I have an rotator cuff tear. I have a copy of the films already and it does look like there is a tear there. I will know for sure on Oct. 25. I think my body is betraying me. I have had surgery on both knees, right foot, left shoulder and know possibly my right shoulder.

stupid pharmacy

so this actually happened yesterday but I didn't have the time to post about it yet so here goes.

day before yesterday I called in to get my new box of syringes because I was down to my last baggie of 10. I use 4 a day. I have to wait until a certain time because my insurance will only cover it after a certain date (like after 1 month) when I called in they told me I had no more refills on it. I looked on my pres. and…

Fun with test sites!

Thanks to my newly received One Touch Mini, I've got some extra test strips, and thanks to my inner procrastinator, I've got some extra time.

Here goes, all tested within about 5 minutes:

Left ring finger - 98

left big toe - 102

left palm -107 (and painful!)

left forearm - couldn't produce big enough sample

right ring finger - 97

abdomen - couldn't produce big enough sample

right heel - couldn't produce big enough sample

I gave up…

Computers and bedtime...

I looked at the computer and it does appear to be the PSU, so I e-mailed Loey and Rick to let them know it will be about $40 to fix it. Loey had me e-mail some files that she needed... so we'll wait to get the PSU now...

Anywho, time for bed as JoAnn has already gone there... Little Charlotte goes to bed at about 9:30 - 10:00, and sleeps until 6:30 am... and she's only 14 weeks old - AMAZING..!!! :)
