One more example of why my doctor drives me crazy

I contacted my doctor about switching to Levemir as my HMO has made Lantus cost me almost twice as much as Levemir will. In passing I mentioned that I understand that I'll need to break my current total Lantus dose into two Levemir doses, 12 hours apart (due to the shorter efficacy time of the Levemir.) This was her reply:

"I will check with pharmacy on how to convert your Lantus to the Levemir safely."

Then, the next day:

Splitting Lantus Dose -- Juggling Various Concerns

OK -- I am trying to take all the various points of advice and problems into consideration and here's what I've come up with:



1) I think my total Lantus dose is about right (it holds me steady when there's no food or Novolog on board;



2) I'm splitting it again starting today: 25 IU in the morning and 30 IU at noon. That way there won't be such a steep drop-off between three and six a.m. (it doesn't last 24 hours in me);

9 units - WTW?!?

I injected 23 IU of Lantus this morning in one site (I do two sites of 23 each) and held the needle in for ten seconds, pulled it half-way out and held it there for another ten seconds, pulled out the needle and then...watched a HUGE bead of almost-clear (very slightly tinged with blood) Lantus come right back out again.

The Mysteries of Lantus and Insulin Resistance Continue

I have a new doctor and a new insulin protocol.



He wants me to inject Lantus at roughly the same time each day (between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.) to avoid the mid-night hypos I've been getting. He asked me to hold off on my Lantus injection the night before last and just set an alarm to inject Lantus this morning instead.
