Clinical Trial Blah

Well helloooooo everyone. Been a while since I've been on here. Med school has been getting the best of me and my time. Between school, studying with high BGs,…

One Year on DEFEND-2

Click over to my blog for the full text.

It's hard to believe that yesterday was my 12 month appointment for the DEFEND-2 trial. I looked at the sheet and it was visit #27. I figured it out and realized that I have made the 1000 mile round trip drive 23 times in the past year for screening visits, cgm placements, dosing and followup visits. I've put just under 23,000 miles… Continue

Live updating blog - one year mixed meal test

http://diabeticallymindnumbing.blogspot.com/

Hey all,

I will be starting my one year mixed meal time test (MMTT) in a couple hours. I am going to live blog about it (link is above) either with updates to a single post or multiple posts. I will also be tweeting throughout the test. Let's hope my blood glucose stays under 200. I doubt it but I can always hope right?

Clinic Time and Specialties

Click over to my blog for the full text.

I'm trying to find time to get out and shadow some doctors, but that's not working out well. My schedule is so packed with research and trying to get papers out the door that I don't have any extra free time. I'm really interested in shadowing a few specialties which I think I would really enjoy (in no specific order other… Continue

No Apologies. No Excuses. Just do it.

Unlike other diabetics, because of the DEFEND-2 trial I have been getting my A1C checked on a monthly basis instead of the normal 3-6 intervals. My A1C was 9.6 at diagnosis. I've posted about the A1C a few times...

I received my HbA1C back a couple days ago from the clinical trial. It's a 4.9!! For the non-diabetics and non-meds…

T-minus 1 day!

I defend my dissertation tomorrow. The culmination of the last 4 years of my life smashed into 1 50 minute presentation. Because of time constraints, which usual for dissertation defenses, I'm only presenting about 50% of what I've actually done and written up in the thesis. This makes it challenging to create a nice flowing story of you… Continue

I've got a beautiful heart shadow, no?
I found this picture of my PICC for the Defend-2 dosing. See that black line

howdy!

Hey everyone. I am a semi-recent type 1 diabetic. I was dx on May 17, 2010 at the age of 26. I am a senior Ph.D. student in biomedical science. I have been blogging about my experience as a participant in the DEFEND-2 clinical trial. There are a bunch of other posts about the DEFEND-2… Continue

How do you measure the work of volunteers?

329,040 minutes, 329,040 moments so dear. 329,040 minutes — How do you measure, measure volunteers? In smileys, in tears shed, in counsel, in cups of coffee. In units, in carb counts, in laughter, in strife. In 329,040 minutes – how …
