Camp Hamwi and THE Shot (The Highs and Lows of Living with Diabetes)

Relying on your mom to give you your insulin injections has its disadvantages, especially when she's mad at you and hasn't taken (what she called) her "nerve pills." Like the time I got mud on her freshly cleaned kitchen floor and later when she gave me my shot, she wiggled and twisted the needle around in my arm before pushing in the insulin. She swore her hand was slippery from floor wax, but I knew better.

As I indicated…

I'm Thankful for My Diabetes (The Highs and Lows of Living with Type 1 Diabetes, #1)

I'm thankful for my diabetes, and I want it to be cured.*

On June 7, I will be biking 60 miles as a "Red Rider" (a cyclist with diabetes) in the Tour de Cure - Kentucky. Yes, I'll be turning down the basal rate on my insulin pod, checking my blood-glucose levels regularly, and taking plenty of…

Oregon Tour de Cure ride report

A few months late, but here it is - the report I sent out to those who donated to my Tour de Cure ride in Oregon, so pardon the remedial explanation of hypoglycemia:

I booked an Amtrak ticket from Seattle to Portland on Friday, July 29, and paid the extra $10 to put my bike on the baggage car for the 200-mile trip. Seattle’s King Street Station is about 8 miles from my house, so I decided that if I could carry everything I needed for the weekend I could ride there and have a car-less…

Our Future, today!

First of all I want to apologize because I haven't been blogging in a very long time, but I went through a LONG PERIOD of writer's block haha I just had nothing to say. Have you been in that situation? That you want to do something and when you finally have the opportunity something else holds you back, yeah I've been there and I hate that feeling!

Last month I had my graduation! I'm going to high school!! haha I'm very excited about it. Junior high was truly an amazing journey for… Continue

Seattle Tour de Cure, May 22, 2010

This has been the coldest, rainiest May in Seattle that I can remember. The forecast for May 22nd and the Tour de Cure was “mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain,” which is the forecast for Seattle almost 90% of the time. I haven’t done the math but I think that means that it generally rains in Seattle about 27% of the time.…

SHE is my mother :D

Yesterday wasn't that good, we were having the moms at school for mothers day and I was in charged of making a video for all the moms in my class. The video went out pretty good but the french teacher wanted me to put it all in French! And I had to stay at recess to change it, I hardly ate and when I was back at home my Blood sugar went down to 45!

And during all day long I was tired and in a bad mood, Have you ever been in a bad mood because of your sugar levels? My…

Prelude to the Tour de Cure- A few questions on fund raising etiquette

Last week I attended the Northeast Ohio tour de cure launch party for the tour which will be on June 13 this year.

It is my first time participating on the tour as a Red Rider, mostly I have always just put my contribution in the mail but more and more I find myself wanting and have made the decision to be more involved.

So here I was at the launch party with a few goals to introduce myself to the local ADA community and volunteers and also to find a team I could join this… Continue

Don't Judge before knowing...

Yesterday there was an open house at my school and I was not nervous I didn't expected something either bad or good at all, about my report card this month. Just as always I got nines in most of my subjects...maybe there were 2 eights but I really hate French and History class! Ha! who doesn't?

What really surprised was the reaction of my mom when the teacher told her I wasn't eating well and that my sugar goes down very often. My mom was MAD because she was ashamed the…

Most Crazy thing EVER!

Yesterday I did the most crazy thing ever with one of my friends! Well, I am going to start by telling you how we came up with this idea. Me and my friend wanted to make a fan video for Nick Jonas since we are both big fans and we came up with the idea of asking the fans to send us videos saying why is nick jonas their inspiration and why did they like him. Unfortunately we didn't recieve enough videos. So, we then went to the mall and ask random people, STRANGERS if they liked Nick Jonas and… Continue
