Just because you are traveling to a place you live only means you are on the way home. The biggest part of you has stayed behind, only your body has left. You are split and torn since you are in two places at once. The only way to heal is to get both your mind and your body in the same place. Until that happens you're not home, you just visit from time to time but never stay. You always end up where ever your mind is.

Green Egg Rolls for My Ham

I have a feeling I’m going to be in trouble when Eric starts school. I offer, for your consideration, the following exchange that took place last night.

I was attempting to get Eric to try something new at the dinner table: an egg roll. His response was, “I don't like egg rolls.”

Thinking a little Dr. Seuss might persuade him, I quoted from Green Eggs and Ham :

“You do not like them, so you say. Try them, try them, and you may! Try them and you may, I…

Voodoo Meter!

People imagine that the most painful thing about having diabetes must be the injections, but it’s not so. Even those who are controlled by diet and exercise or pills have to suffer the pain caused by stabbing yourself with a lancet in order to discover your blood glucose levels. Depending on the person and the treatment regime they are on, this might happen between 2 and 12 times a day – for some people even more!…

Calling all artists/poets!! I need your help

Hey everyone, I am going to be publishing a book about Diabetes--focusing on the struggles diabetics face in school when dealing with our diabetes, supplies, feeling rundown, etc and overall being misunderstood by the education system, peers and administration. I want to include some artwork and poetry made by diabetics themselves illustrating our frustrations---if anyone could please send me their work I would definitely appreciate it and give you credit in the title page of the… Continue

Celebrating Sound, A Poem

CELEBRATING SOUND

In the silent sun of Friday afternoon in Albuquerque,

A doctor’s paper shoe -boots shuffled into my room.

He placed my fingers around the tiniest creature.

Noisy in this quiet was Jennifer Dawn.

In the miniature baby-box, surrounded by monster machines,

she moved like a sixties rock-and-roll dancer.

Miniature mittens halted her hands from removing tubes.

She longed to make her extraordinary noise in the… Continue

Before You Go

Before You Go

What right do I have

to ask for one more kiss

You are tired and in need of much rest

Please one more hug before you go

Let me hear you call my name

Whisper you love me

as no one else can

Please just one more kiss before you go

If you choose to yell I won't hide

Let me see that twinkle in your eyes

Please smile....

Just one more kiss Daddy

before you die

*** The Snowman ***

*** THE SNOWMAN ***

I've lived my life

Now I must go

With me I shall take the snow

Clean and fresh

So white and pure

I gave you all my love

Of that you can be sure

Perhaps you felt

You needed more hugs

But my love was shone

By the warmth of your gloves

And me being home

Conversation wasn't much needed

For straight to the point I'd lead us

Perhaps if you… Continue

"The Children's Prayer" -- Diabetes Style

A quick inspiration... for Kerri, Gina, Lindsey, and everyone else who is fighting nighttime hypos, or fighting for a CGM...

As I lay me down this night
Into Moebus' realms of flight
I pray no hypo, mild or deep
Disturb or slay me in my sleep.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Dylan Thomas

(I love this poem...it is so relevant to diabetes)

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age (or young) should burn and rage at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night

Good men, the last wave by, crying how… Continue
