I almost had my own memorial day weekend!

Ugg, this weekend was a real drag. I felt like I was dying. And I'm not feel that much better today even.

I got the flu on Thursday. Which had me vomiting and diarrhea till early morning hours of Friday. I had become so dehydrated, that at some point I decided to go to the hospital. It was just too reminiscent of my previous DKA episodes. So I take a ride in the ambulance to the closet ER.

Luckily though, it was just the flu. Or was it? Just the flu, saying that as a type 1…

Another Update on everything

I just realized it was about this time last year that I started going into DKA and it is almost one month to my diagnosis day. I can hardly believe it. I continue to have symptoms in my legs, my left one with the confirmed dvt being worse. I had two more incidents of pain in my leg- ultrasounds show no new clot but more tests show venal insufficiency in the popliteal and saphenous vein in my left leg. The arteries are fine in both legs. I went for a second opinion to a doc in nyc since I'm…

My newfound appreciation of the Gashlycrumb Tinies

It's almost midnight and I haven't been to bed yet. I have two sick little boys in the next room, burning up with fever, moaning from headaches (I suspect sinus infections—pediatrician visit tomorrow, oh, my, yes.) And I'm having all those Paranoid Parent thoughts that all parents get, only I would imagine those of us with insulin-free offspring get them more often than most.

What if this isn't just a garden variety virus? He's complaining of a horrible headache — more than just…

High blood sugar turns me into a crazy person.

I was sick yesterday. Achy, a bit of a fever I guess, stomach evils. Mostly just stayed on the couch feeling like a turd all day. Any my blood sugar was high, of course. I don't really know the reason, but being sick and high blood sugar go together like peas in a pod. My insulin total increased by over 50% yesterday, and I struggled to go under 200 mg/dl all day.

This morning, I feel better, but my blood sugar is much worse. I went to boot camp (hour long exercise program) because I… Continue

Diabetes Blog

So after reading Manny's blog--I will try to post here more often

Right now I am fighting off something. BG on a rollercoaster (from 49-290 and everything in beteween more than once in the last couple of days) ..felt like crap the last 2 days--giving in and going to doc tomorrow.

I'd rather be working on Christmas presents--more washing, ironing, cutting, sewing and quilting to do!

Working on my to-dos for the grandaughter (that list will never end I know--yes I am… Continue

Catching the bug, re-reading my own advice...

It's official: I am sick in bed, feeling horrible. Everyone back here caught the bug. It seems like it came with our family who is visiting us for a couple of days and I am almost the last one to get it (my sister-in-law's boyfriend is still holding on strong).

Anyway, BG's have been rocky (last value was 300). I tested for ketones and doing OK there. I will continue to drink water, test often and eat as little carbs as possible. I will continue to follow… Continue
