I was diagnosed with Juvenille diabetes on May 21, 1972. My mom was 29 years old and pregnant with my brother. He was born July 25, 1972 and 2 years later he was diagnosed with Juvenille Diabetes. 37 years ago that's what is was called... "Juvenille". Both my mom and dad dove head-first into a life of caring for two diabetic toddlers. They never let anything stand in our way or their way. We lived life as normally as the next kid, so we thought. I learned years after the fact, that for every bir…

Today is my 37th Anniversary of being a Juvenile (Type I) diabetic. Cool, huh?
I can't figure out why no one wants to celebrate with me? I'm very proud of it. I have to tell you that 37 years ago my parents thought I was being sentenced to an early death.
I'm proud to tell everyone that I've lived a very nice, relatively "Normal" life as a T1.
- I've traveled to all 7 continents (104 Countries on MDI).
- I've been married for over 15 years to a man who loves me and supports me and has taken…

Hello all-
I've been away for a few weeks, but I wanted you to know that I have been peeking in to check on things.
I also wanted to let you all know... in 6 minutes at 1:00am it will be 7 weeks since I last smoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still can't believe it. I had tried so many times for so many years to quit and each time (after about 5 -10 days) I'd go back to the smoke hut at work and announce "I'm NOT a QUITTER". Well, now I say "CALL ME QUITTER!"
So, I'm still on the weight loss plan too! LO…

Hello all!
As promised the QUITTER is on to new adventures!
It's now been 5 and 1/2 weeks since my last cigarette and I can't tell you how proud I am of myself. I can get up and not go straight outside to smoke. I've actually learned to let my two dogs outside by themselves! I can drive and not smoke. I'm enjoying the freedom.
Now, I'm onto bigger and better things!
I walked about 7 miles on my treadmill last week. I've joined a few other TuD folks on a weigh loss mission and it finally kicked…

Hi!
Can you believe it's been one month today. Dec. 18, 2008 - Jan. 18, 2009. I have NOT smoked. Today I had to go to LaGuardia to get my mom at the airport
(see my blog...EDONAdesigns.blogspot.com...the pipes burst at mom and dad's house!) and as I sat at the airport with my daughter we watched about 15 people smoke outside the door. I didn't want one. I didn't want to get out of the car and smoke. Now, that was HUGE! Me, not dying for…

Hello all-
Wanted to let you know that I've been SUCCESSFUL and the name "QUITTER" is sticking.
1:00am Thu. Jan. 8 is 3 weeks since I quit smoking. I'm DONE! I QUIT!
If you had asked me 4 weeks ago if I thought that I would ever quit smoking cold turkey I would have said "absolutely not!" So, I am VERY proud of myself if I may say so.
I've gained weight. That was inevitable. So, Monday I started walking. I walked 1 mile on a treadmill Monday night and I walked about…

Hi-
It's been almost 24 hours and so far, so good.
I found that 3pm is tough and RIGHT NOW. It's bed time in CT. The family is asleep and NOW Is the time that I normally stay up, work on my "art projects" and smoke at each step. So, instead of that. I'm going to sleep!
Thanks to each and everyone who has offered support along the way. I feel SO good about my decision!

I'm DONE!
I QUIT.
I'm early, but I'm done. I have posted a note under a photo on my page....
I QUIT!

This is my garbage can.
I ripped 3 packs of cigarettes and threw them away. I'm DONE. Call me QUITTER.
I also sent a message to George's INBOX prior to the photo post:
George-
Oh, how I WISH you were online... : (
I'm DONE. I QUIT. NOW. 12/18/07 1:00am
I watched your video from last August about your eye visit and your 2 year Breathaversary.
Then, I started clicking on the video…

I want to thank everyone who has responded to George's post asking for support for me. I have received some great feedback, which has given me some good ideas on how to tackle my "I QUIT" program. I am not sure I have the strength to go cold turkey, so I plan to put on a patch first thing Sunday morning. Two people directed me towards great websites that will be of assistance in my goal. Thank you! I'm feeling positive, but a little scared at the same time. I know when my "weak" points are, so I…

I've always told people "I'm not a quitter". For the past 24 years that I've smoked I always jokingly say that when people ask "When are you going to quit?" Well, it's now time to call me QUITTER. This coming Sunday, Dec. 21st is the day.
My story is long, but I want to share a little with you. I was diagnosed with T1 at age 2 1/2. My brother, who is 3 years younger than me, was diagnosed with T1 at age 2 also. It was great growing up together and never knowing anything different. Our parents d…
