Curious about the idea of "good control"

Since I have been on the pump, I have had very very few blood sugars go above 10 mmol and under 4 mmol. Would you consider this good control although i am going from 5 mmol to 9 mmol in a run of a day? When I has on mdi i was use to having low blood sugars alllll of the time, which is why my a1c remained in the low 5's, however now that i am on the pump i dont have any lows. So would under 10 and above 4 be considered a long term "safe zone" or does damage still get done? Continue

Thirsty all the time and elevated liver enzymes ahh!

I feel dehydrated and thirsty all of the time, my blood sugars can be perfectly normal but my lips will be dry and cracked and i'll feel as if i cant get enough water. I swear i carry a bottle of water everywhere i go, if i don't i usually get dehydrated. does anyone else have this problem and do you think it could be a symptom for another underlying illness?? I had a repeated blood test a little while ago because my previous blood test showed an alteration in liver enzymes, I dont even drink,… Continue

Long time no blog

haven't posted here in a long time! thought i'd give a little update. I'm on month 4 with the pump, and so far my bloodsugars have been fantastic between 5 and 6 mmol most of the time. The only time i ever have lows usually is when i exercise. My endo has still found something to rag on me about though and claims i exercise "too much" and i'm eating too healthy and should be eating more carbs. haha ohhh my there's always something isn't there. I'm starting my last year of university in one wee… Continue

Being type one and living in fear

Does anyone struggle with the thought of travelling places and doing this they would do if they weren't diabetic? so I am beetus-anal. lovely term I know... but everything I do revolves around taking care of the D. Even though I have the pump and have the ability to cheat a little, I won't even bother because i'm terrified of dealing with the aftermath of high/low blood sugar. examples: I have to get my 8 hours rest at night or i'll be screwed up and my sugars will be wacky... so this means..… Continue

Dear Peanut Butter

*Sigggh* you were the one thing that satisfied my vegetarian gut, but sadly you make me chase my sugars for hours after I taste your damn peanut-buttery-ness. I love you and hate you and i`m sorry to say this but.... I just can`t have you anymore and i`m switching to your enemy - the tub of yogurt. We`ve had some good times on our honeymoon you and I.. but this just isn`t working out anymore, I can`t continue on in this love hate relationship with you... therefor I`m putting you in the junk food… Continue

Its a beautiful day in Norway, with diabetes the last thing on my mind.

Good day beauties, I arrived in Oslo last night, ITS BEAUTIFUL. The people here are so welcoming, and there are parts here and there i remember from being a little girl. Traveling with the pump really wasn't as hard as I thought, considering I brought a suitcase and back pack full of food and supplies... plane food wasn't too good though, they gave me some kind of cracker that tasted like wet cardboard.... I shall report back about my trip soon, until then check out my blog for those of you int… Continue

Down with the sickness

..BLAAAAAHHHHH.. I rarely get sick so i'm being a sook. but I feel like a 90 year old women today. My sugars have been up and down the past two days so i'm trying to adjust my basal accordingly... BUT UGGGH my throat feels like sandpaper and my gut sounds like theres a living creature inside that's going to make my intestines explode any minute (lovely description wasn't that?) ANYWAYS... on the plus side of that my boyfriend of 6 years gave me a promise ring last night (neither of us really bel… Continue

So I have fulfilled one of my dreams!

I know i could never be a full fledged model, but on my list of things to do before I die its to model in an actual photoshoot. I love that I can say HEY... i'm type one diabetic, I'm wearing the pump in this shoot, I'm not that exotic.. half swedish and half newfie, i snort alot when i laugh, i'm too big for regular modeling and too small for plus size, I'm too short, have no bone structure... BUT YOU KNOW WHAT! I still did it! After years of telling myself I could never do something like this,… Continue

Update on Alex

I'm so Happy to say that he woke up from coma this morning, the doctors have treated his DKA, but they still want to do more test's such as stress tests and an examination on his brain to check for possible damage etc. He is a little weak at this stage, but he can speak and says he does not remember a thing leading up to the event, or why it happened. The doctors say he was very lucky and blessed to be found and alive. I do know something like this can happen on the rarest of occasions, but it m… Continue
