Just got back from a 2 day business trip to New Mexico - and on two occasions waiter people gave me regular soda's instead of diet. Most times I can tell right away, but lately depending on the fountain mix it's not as easy. Was dealing with a sugar level over 500 in a lonely hotel room for 4 hours, was not fun. I am very very explicit about my drink orders - this seems to be happening more and more often. Sometimes I think these folks just don't care!!

With current insulin intake I can go 5 days without changeing sets. Everything I have read says you change every 3 days. Do you change based upon what is in your pump or just every three day. Sorry for the stupid question.

Well tn finally happened today! After almost 40 years of multiple shots a day my pump is up and running - spent most of the day pretty lazy catching up on paper work and working on the computer - three Bolus of limited magnitude. Sugar levels hanging around 125-150. Then I took a 30 minute walk and feel like a invalid - will check my levels, but sure they are low. A little irrating because I thought I had this down pat - yea right after less than 1 day.- please a little humble pie please. Oh wel…

Now just need an appointment for training, I have 3 visits at Joslin approved by my insurance for this! This has been such a trial! I hope I can work with the Comfort Insets because that is what I recieved. Had my A1c @7.5 for a year. Almost cancelled the pump because of all the paperwork and addtional Dr. visits. Its all been so crazy I just recieved a 3 month supplies of Accucheck Spirit Cartridges…

I was so happy when my pump arrived 2 weeks ago. Then the a stupid game set in of who was going pay for the supplies - double covered insurance. You would think they'd never heard of pump supplies - one was sure their pharmacy vendor carried them. Then one thought the MiniMed stuff would fit an Animas pump. Referrals and more Endo scripts, poor doctor, utilzation management nurses, then they had to decide if there was one preferred DME company. Then one advocate said she was going vaction till m…

Picked it up yesterday - forgoing the rep training have 3 visits scheduled at Joslin. Not a worlds record but the process took 3 months. Found out today that the insets and insulin refill stuff are considered a DME supply and not a diabetic supply so no longer subject to my modest nifty little 3 month diabetic supply copay but I am now out of pocket 20% of the cost sounds like 30-35 a month. Oh well I hope its worth it. I don't really understand the logic though I use 5 or 6 different needles a…

I thought I was doing great over a a 4 month period bought my A1c down from 9 to 7.4 and I probably in the 6's right now. Doing all this in anticipation of my pump which has arrived just need to schedule training. Blew out part of my left eye last week and have spent most of this week with laser treatments and more to go next week. They tell me the culprit is a rapid change in pressure in my eye due to increased control in a short amount of time. My response to the doctors was you got to kidding…

Diabetes is a disease with very few cures
It is a disease that can kill, maim, blind, and steal dreams
It is a disease that can create dams for personal relationships
It is a disease that no one wants to talk about it’s so un-cool
It is a disease where food is your worst enemy
It is a disease that attacks people of all ages, race, or gender
It is a disease that separates one from family, friends, and co-workers
It is a disease that either makes you strong to survive or you do not

Well its done all paper work in and Animas has confirned they recieved the order. After 35 years and 1000's of shots a major change is comming to my life. Don't know if I am scared but still have a lot of questions on how to wear the bloody thing! I am a lousey sleeper, I backpack for weeks on end, and I ride my bike 3-5000 miles each year. I am so used to just carrying around insulin and meter. That being said everyone says my control will be better with a pump and thats what I am after, but it…
