HEY, I CAN TYPE AGAIN

come this wednesday, i have been a little out of the loop for two weeks. it's been a busy two weeks.i lost two wonderful men to the winter of their lives. uncle roger (my most favorite uncle, although technically he's my husbands uncle) fought a long battle with lung cancer and lester (the father of a good friend passed from heart complications. both men leave behind their loving wives who seem so totally lost without the companionship of their husbands. i grieve for them. it's heartbreaking to… Continue

pat on the back

it's kind of hard to do but i am giving myself a pat on the back. i went to my appt for my 3 month post surgery gastric bypass yesterday and got my official weigh-in. so far post surgery i have lost 33 pounds. add that onto the 14 pounds pre-surgery and the total comes to 47 pounds. here are some fantastic pluses. 1. i can cross my legs again. 2. my blood pressure was down to 116 over 74. 3. i'm in smaller size clothes. 4. my 8 year old grandson told me that he could hold his hands while hugging… Continue

diabetic complishments are the pitts

just when i think i am getting a handle on my D, along come more problems. well at least a continuation of them anyways. i had to make an appt. with my surgeon to evaluate my trigger finger. i had surgery on it last fall. it is still catching on me and won't let me make a fist. turns out that the nerve sleeve that he cut to help was not the one making the problem. instead it is the two that go up the outsides of the finger up to the next knuckle. figures. but i saw him yesterday and he thinks if… Continue

those pesky gremlins have struck again

yesterday i decided that with the sunny weather it is time to get back outside and get some work done. if you have noticed we have had a very wet summer to this point here along lake erie. so i head out to the garage to get the tools i will need to clean up a field of rocks that keep banging up my rider mower blades. (i had some work done out back and there is shale not far under the surface of my yard, so up it came) wheel barrow, check. shovel, check. hoe, check. my short handled hoe, check. g… Continue

my bank account

this was sent to me today. i felt the need to share it. This is AWESOME ... something we should all remember. it's something we can use everyday of our lives. A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lo… Continue

Beth sends her regards

for those of you who know Beth, she called me tonight and wanted everyone to know she's doing well. she says she's as crazy as ever and maybe just a little bit more crazy then she was before. there is no place for a computer where she is staying right now and she's not sure when she will be able to get a place of her own. she's hanging in there and misses all of us very much. she says she's a bit depressed but will get through this tough time and be back on TuD before we know it. she wanted ever… Continue

crabby old man

i saw this today and although i have seen it before i decided to share it with my friends here on TuD. OLD FELLA When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte , Nebraska , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital One nurse took her copy to Missouri… Continue

are they really serious

i think i should have rolled over and gone back to sleep yesterday morning. i woke up to no lights. ok, it will probably come back on soon. i was heading out to get my blood drawn for my bariatric doctor, as soon as i got ready. fortunately for me there was enough water for a quick shower and hair wash. after an hour still no lights. we hadn't had any storms or anything to explain why it was out. so after the hour went by i called the electric company. of course i got the automated service. they… Continue

food

A Doctor was addressing a large audience: "The material we put into our stomachs is enough to have killed most of us sitting here, years ago. Red meat is awful. Soft drinks corrode your stomach lining. Chinese food is loaded with MSG. High fat diets can be disastrous, and none of us realizes the long- term harm caused by the germs in our drinking water. But there is one thing that is the most dangerous of all and we all have, or will, eat it. "Can anyone here tell me what food it is that cause… Continue

today i had my one week post-op with my gastric bypass doctor. while i still have to drink the protein drink i have also been graduated up to pureed foods. yummy!!!! not only do i have to puree it, but then i have to strain it. so when i got home i made up some tomato soup and planned on pureeing some chicken. low and behold i found out i don't have anything to strain my pureed food with. so tomorrow it's off to the store to do some grocery shopping and i will pick up a strainer as well. i'm onl… Continue

will this time be a trial run as well?

well i'm going to try this again. tomorrow is my gastric bypass surgery. take 2. hopefully this time is the winner. this has been such a long time coming that i almost don't believe it's going to actually happen. i think we are now past all of the "if anything can go wrong ,it will" phase. i hope anyway. my doctor's nurse called this morning and told me to be there at 8 am for a 9 am surgery and i just got a call from the hospital telling me not to be there until 10 am for a 1 pm surgery. so the… Continue

The History of 'APRONS'

i have a few myself, but regretfully i don't wear them as much as gramma. then again i don't wear as many dresses either. but i definitely use my aprons. The History of 'APRONS' I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few,it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful f… Continue

Doctor's Orders

*Doctor's Orders* Doctor: "I see you're over a month late for your appointment. Don't you know that nervous disorders require prompt and regular attention? What's your excuse?" Patient: "I was just following your orders, Doc." Doctor: "Following my orders? What are you talking about? I gave you no such order." Patient: "You told me to avoid people who irritate me." marine corps chatter

i don't know if this is true or not but i thought it was worth a pass along. gotta love our marines. In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace. This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and… Continue
