WOW! I can't believe that I haven't been on here in over a month. Where has the time gone? I can only say that I have been really busy doing a whole lot of ....NOTHING! Well not totally nothing but not that much that I couldn't have dropped a few new friends a line or posted something on my blog.
I've spent some of my time making ribbons for my
diabetes awareness campaign, shopping for Christmas presents and well...falling in love. It…

On Friday I proudly wore blue pants and a blue shirt to represent World Diabetes Day. I also sent my son to school in a blue long sleeve shirt with blue jeans. It was a wonderful day for me. At noon I attended a diabetes luncheon that was hosted by the Samuel U Rodgers Health Center. Cherise over at
DiabeticizMe invited me after my status on facebook read "I'm disapointed with the lack of support in Kansas City about diabetes". Her mom (Nina Ho…

As you all know it's Diabetes Awareness month and Kansas City is as quiet as the night before Christmas and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse. Sorry I have thoughts of Christmas dancing around on my brain.
Anyway, I'm going to the American Diabetes Association office tonight for a recap meeting on the Step Out walk we had in September. I plan on bringing up the question of why they are not having any events this month. I'm hoping they will say "No Andrea we have…

A couple of months ago I found out I have to switch endocrinologists due to my current insurance dropping that hospital and network of doctors, ugh! I have to admit I am not a big fan of going to the endo mostly because it often feels like I'm being criticized. And who likes criticism? No matter how contructive it is. But this doctor has a totally different approach which I find so refreshing. He takes his time to explain things to me, asks my opinion and actually writes down what he wants me to…

You all know what I mean. If you unrolled your list of things to do today they would roll out the door, wrap around the corner and up the street. Something has to be moved to the next day but what? My issue is rearranging my to do list so I can complete the most important tasks first. I think it's because they are all important to me but here lately not much is getting checked off the to do list. One of things that has not been getting done (and I am ashamed to admit it) is keeping my SugarStats…

I will be wearing blue and putting my two boys on blue that day. I figure there shirts could say something like momma has diabetes. It's not written in stone but I do know we will have on our blue.
And if you haven't already please stop by www.diabetesdoodle.com and sign the petition to get google to light the home page in blue for World Diabetes Day Nov. 14th

I know I shouldn't do it but I do it anyway. I'll get something to eat, take my medicine, start eating and never finish because I start doing something else. This is a really bad habit for me because I'm distracted very easily. What ends up happening is I have a low because I've taken medicine for carbs that were never eaten. I've been thinking about waiting until after I eat to take my medicine so then I can adjust the dose to the correct number of carbs I've eaten.
I have to do better because…

I recently started using SugarStats and have subscribed so I can use all of the features. Since I've decided to drink more water I figured a good way to keep up with how much I drink (approx) would be to put it in my foods list in SugarStats. I just started tracking it today but I had 36 oz of water while I was at work. Woo hoo! Not as much since I've been home but I'm working on it.
Which brings me to my next subject, vitamins. I asked my eye doc about a good vitamin to take and he gave me the…

My last post was about me getting too much caffeine. So I tried (really I did) to stop drinking so much caffeine and I did but....because there is always a but...I didn't increase my water intake. I know, I know I should be doing better. I have to get serious about this but for some reason I keep putting it off. I can do this no sweat, right? Yes I can. About two years ago I would have never drunk a diet anything. Now I only drink pop if it's diet and have recently tried diet tea (Thanks Cherise…

I think I'm getting too much caffeine. Sometimes I'm jittery, hands tremble and I can spit a word out faster than lightning can strike. Yeah too much caffeine. I drink about 16 oz of coffee in the morning, a 12 oz can of diet Pepsi at lunch and dinner (and yeah sometimes mid day).
What's that? Oh, you wanna know how much water I drink. Ummm maybe 16oz......a day (but not on the weekend it's even less). I know, I know! Not good at all. So starting today (after I finish this cup of coffee) I'm go…

I met an awesome lady through this site called Cherise. She has a blog called
DiabeticizMe and on it she has started a new feature every Monday that is called DFYI (diabetes for your information). I am excited about it because I am the first of many in the new section of her blog. She interviewed me about my ribbon campaign that I have in Nov for diabetes awareness month. Awesome, right?! My thoughts exactly.
So go by her blog and check it out and…

Since I finally jumped on the blogging band wagon (probably one of the last people to do so but anyway, LOL!) I also submitted my blog to blogher. They kindly sent an email back saying that they were unable to add my blog to the blogroll at this time since I have not been consistent on blogging. But to keep up the good work and to blog at least once a week for at least 30 days and then re submit my application. Fair enough I thought as I read the email. Since it really is true I actually started…

You probably don't know it but I have two other blogs besides this one. The other two blogs are about diabetes (becasue I have diabetes along with plenty of other family members) and my mother's fibromyalgia. One is hosted at my invisible diability community which is an awesome site to network with others who suffer from chronic pain, fibromyalgia and other "invisible" illnesses. The other one is hosted on wordpress which is my blog about life in Kansas City with diabetes. I usually blog about s…

Not really since Fall doesn't start for another 30 days or so but Labor Day is considered to be the last holiday of Summer. Here in Kansas City once summer is over and fall sets in it's all down hill from there becuase it seems like fall is only 2 days long and BAM! (as Emerald says) winter is here. And our winter is usually a nasty little ugly creature that rears his head sometimes as soon as Thanksgiving. UGH! The cold wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't the ice and snow. And for some reason ou…

I have recently set out on a quest to encourage people to get tested but it has been very overwhelming. I started last year when I voluntered with the American Diabetes Associations Step Out to Fight Diabetes and Hoops and Sneakers Gala events. In November I also made diabetes awareness ribbons and distributed them to the local television and radio stations in my area. And then I felt like "Now what?" LOL! This year I'm doing it all again but I also wanted to reach out past Kansas City to see wh…
