Ruptured disc

11-11-11 yesterday they found that my ruptured disc had grown into a 3 sided rupture and was pinching on my nerves. I was rushed to emergency surgery and had the reupture removed and L2, L3 and L4 fused. Spent the next 3 days in ICU and was released on the 4th day. I spent the next 6 weeks recovering at home. doing well

ENDO visit

I got the results of my blood work today and my A1C was up from 5.5 to 6.4. I went off LOW CARB during my recovery from knee replacement surgery and that caused me to go a little over. Still have not made it back to LOW CARB. He did add Levemir to my meds. Started that last night dropped 30 points on my morning number.

ENDO visit 2-9-11

Update I have been on Victoza since July 2010 with Novolog and Glimipride. I used to do LOW CARB/NO CARB until my knee replacement surgery 11-24-10 but went off during recovery to make things easier. I feel a lot better but have not been able to maintain or loose weight. My morning numbers have been 140 to 190

Yesterday he added Levermir to my meds to help with the morning numbers. I started last night with 10 units AM and PM and will work up until my morning numbers are 120 or less. He… Continue

Victoza day 3, 4, 5, weekend

.I stopped taking my Lantus shots Friday night and things smoothed out a little. My numbers ran a little above normal and I felt sick but not sick enough to not get anything accomplished over the weekend. I wanted to run several days before I made any adjustments to my meds. My overnights have been respectable.

I faxed my logs in to the ENDO office this morning. Maybe they will call with adjustments.

Day 2 with Victoza

Day one ended ended with numbers in the 80's 90's and 111 when I went to bed( I thougt this is great). At 3:07am I woke to 65 treated with 2 candied orange slices(24mg) and went back to bed. At 5:51am I was 66 and treated with 2 candied orange slices( 2 orange slices would normally have me at 130 in 1 hour). I had another orange slice while getting dressed for work. The tiredness is gone felt real good. Had my usual breakfast of 4oz sausage pattie and had 7 triscuits(20gm) with it trying to…

Victoza

Yesterday was my usual 4 month ENDO visit and he was real pleased. I will get my lab results in a couple of days. He told me about Victoza and wanted me to try it for 3 months. He said that his patients that he has put on Victoza have lost between 5 and 40 lbs and he would expect atleast 15lbs from me.

I told him that I have scheduled partial knee replacement for December 10th and he agreed that any weight loss would aid in recovery from the surgery.

So I started my first shot…

LOWS

Do you get different responses from the same low number? I am usually functional down into the 50's but last night I woke up at 63 and my speach was slured, had trouble focussing and very little muscle control. I got to my supply of candied orange slices and had 2 slices. This occured at 11pm so my wife insisted I eat a couple of Triscuits with peanut butter. When I got up again at 4am I was 123 and 113 when I ate at 6:15am.

We ate last night at about 6:30pm and I was 175…

Ethylprednisone plus knee drain

All the trouble I have been having with my left knee finally got me back to the doctor. He drained fluid off my knee and shot 40 mg of ethylprednisone into the knee. My bg reading jumped to 256 but was expecting that just corrected and went on. He also put me in an unloader brace($900) to get better separation from the joints I have bone on bone on the inside of the joint. This is to try and get me some time before I have knee replacement. I need to get to July of 2011 to get on…

Bad day(non-diabetic)

I had arthroscopic knee surgery 4-22 to repair a torn cartlidge and I thought it was getting better. The past couple of days have been real bad. A lot of pain, difficult to walk, pain killers not effective. I guess I am going to have to workout on my weight machine. I have been putting this off but I need to exercise since I am going to layoff walking for a while and use a lot of ice packs while at home.

GOOD? Bad? over the Holiday's

Well for the most part I was good. I did loose 5lbs. My BG's were all over(85 to 129 - I shot for 90's) even though I got up at my usual 5am too not break my routine. It did help some what but the diabetic 'gotcha' always comes in there and you just have to throw up your hands in surrender.

Our Christmas dinner is always Seafood Gumbo and I did have 2 bowls. My wife makes such good gumbo. It is just the flour in the rue that gets you. She came up with a new sweet for me. Strawberry…

Viet Nam

I was a 'blue water' sailor doing time on USS Bennington CVS20 1965, USS Truxton DLGN35 1969 - 70 and USS Enterprise CVAN65 1972 - 73. We were in the Gulf when the war shut down and did not get back until May or Jun of that year. Most of my time I did as a reactor operator on the Truxton and Enterprise. I got out in Oct of 1975, probably the biggest life mistake I made. Things would be alot easier now if I had stayed and retired.

I look back on my Navy time as a really good time. My…
