I SHOULD BE OKAY WITHOUT INSULIN FOR 24 HOURS , RIGHT?

Quick blog... Early Thursday, I phoned my pharmacy to refill my Novolog insulin. The lab technician replied that I had no more refills and they would have to fax my doctor to get his approval. "Okay, no problem I will be picking this up over the weekend." Not a big deal, right? Today (Sunday) comes along, I cruise through the drive through pick up window, ring the service bell, the Pharmacist comes to the window and I say "I am here to pick up my Novolog insulin that I phoned in on Thursday." T… Continue

MIXED EMOTIONS ON LOCAL JDRF FUNDRAISER

I am all about fundraisers/ donations to support the JDRF, but as I watched a segment on the local news the other night, I could not help but have "mixed emotions." A local restaurant is donating $2 dollars every time someone orders a HUGE pancake. The pancakes at this restaurant are one of the top sellers. Deep down, why do I think a $2 dollar donation for every salad/ diet coke ordered would be more fitting? This restaurant is famous for their super sized everything. I get it, no money would b… Continue

"I NO LONGER HAVE DIABETES" (second attempt to post)

I guess due to a "Ning upgrade glitch" tonight it wiped out my blog and all the responses. There were several responses that were deleted, please re-post :). I must be perfectly honest about the emotions that I felt today.... have you ever felt jealous, envious, angry, frustrated and happy all at once? Well, I have, today... The company I work for is rather small. I have been employed at the same place and have worked with the same people for almost 20 years. Out of approximately fifty… Continue

CHICKEN FRIED CHICKEN

Well, the last few months I have been untouchable when it comes to my Type 1 Diabetes management. My readings have been near perfect (for me at least). I have literally been strutting around my house and work place to the point as if my pancreas was functioning properly again. Yeah, I am not exaggerating here, I was untouchable, so I thought... Yesterday, I was knocked down a few rungs on the life ladder. I was put into check, guess who gave me this "life check"?....you guessed it, Type 1 Diabe… Continue

MY 25 YEAR ANNIVERSARY (10/12/2009)

If you know me, you already know that I will not be writing a sappy style reflection blog... I only have 788,923,149 seconds (another 25 years) left until my 50 year anniversary with Type 1 Diabetes. I will be 62 years of age and the year will be 2034. Hopefully there will be a cure by then, If not "que sera sera ." I have lived an awesome life the past 25 years, Type 1 Diabetes and all...

BLAME IT ON DIABETES

If I can do it , so can you my Diabetic friend.... For roughly the past seven years, I have been dealing with various minor muscle aches (upper body), nerve pain/sensations (all extremities), and various joint pain (upper body). To put it plane and simple, it was like 25 years worth of mediocre Type 1 Diabetes management was beginning to cause wide spread inflammation throughout my body. Every time I would visit my Endocrinologist or Internal medicine Doctor they would say something along the l… Continue

DIABETIC AWARDS

I am almost embarrassed to share this with you, but!... oh well, you only live once, right? My last blog I had mentioned that I was not a huge fan of applauding other Diabetics for great A1c's. Well, the far out mind that I have, I began imaging all kinds of crazy stuff. One example in particular is "The Diabetic Awards". I had this wacky thought of a crowded 5,000 seat theater, it would be standing room only of course. There would be plenty of vendors giving out free juice boxes, skittles and… Continue

2 years, 1 month, 3 weeks, 6 days, 9 hours, 17 minutes and 23 seconds...

was the last time I had my A1c checked. Not because I am a terrible Type 1 Diabetic. I figure why run down to the Doctor's office every three months to check a number that has not changed in 25 years? I never make any big changes in diet, exercise or medication... so, again why go get my A1c checked? I am sure you have a few reasons why to get it checked every 3 months, right? I have always maintained a 6.8 average give or take .40120 hundred thousandths of a decimal point. Approximately one mon… Continue

THE POWER OF A RAISIN

Have you ever had something bring you back to the early days of your diagnosis? Well, I did today.... My wife went to the grocery store today, on our list I requested raisins (out of know where), the small 6 pack individual boxes. I know they are high in carbohydrates ( okay source of fiber) but I had an intense craving for them. When we wrote raisins on the list my wife looked at me like she was a little shocked since I have never asked for them before. The entire time we were filling the list… Continue

TOP 10 PWD LIST

Growing up with Type 1 Diabetes, I really never knew too many other Diabetics, at all. Since 2002 and finding Diabetic Message boards, I have been lucky enough to be able to interact with thousands of Diabetics at the tips of my fingers. Along the way I have began to notice the different breeds of Diabetics out there in web land. I have been taking notes (I keep a note pad and pen right next to my computer to write this information on ;) over the past several years. Here is my top 10 PWD list I… Continue

I HAVE A SERIOUS ADDICTION (I MIGHT NEED HELP)

I must admit, in my lifetime I have been addicted to a few things, one of them was alcohol. I blogged about this addiction a few months ago. Anyways, for 37 years of my life I have been a huge anti coffee drinker. I would give little jabs to me wife, mom, friends and co-workers about the "need" for their coffee fix in the morning. All of them guzzling their coffee as if they were smoking a rock of crack, seriously! When I was 21 years old, all of my friends were drinking coffee and smoking cigar… Continue

WARNING ---> OYSTERS WILL KILL YOU <--- WARNING

This is what I was always told growing up with Type 1 Diabetes. "Do not eat raw shellfish (Oysters/Clams) of any kind, Danny, it will kill you." Guess what one of my favorite foods in life is?... of course, shellfish. You name it and I will eat it. I was lucky enough to meet up with Dino a TU member today at an Oyster Bar in one of the Las Vegas Casino's. Guess what we had as an appetizer?... we split a dozen oyster on a half shell. Six slimy, rubbery, chewy, slip down your throat slice of heave… Continue

THIS IS MY DISEASE, RIGHT?

I do a lot of good in regards to my Diabetes management. I eat an okay diet, exercise a little every day, take my mediacations when needed and keep a semi-positive attitude. With that being said, I might have one area I lack in... Sharing my Diabetes. I have always treated my Diabetes as my problem. Danny (me) was diagnosed with it, I will be the one to handle it...this is a good thing, right? A few weeks ago my wife and I were talking and she brought up the fact that I never share any Diabetic… Continue

GETTING CLEAN IN SIN CITY #3 (STORY OF MY LIFE)

3 of 3 and now the conclusion of the "story of my life"..... In order to "get clean" when I returned home, I would have to focus on a few things. First, I must quit the boozing and stop the all night party extravaganzas, distancing myself from the possible temptations such as friends and the establishments that I had been hanging out in for years, this would play a key role in my recovery. Last but not least starting a "born again" Diabetic friendly regimen which would include "trying" to norm… Continue

BLOGGERS AREA HOMEWORK

I think us bloggers know that the "bloggers" area of TU is the place to be, where the "in crowd" of TU hang. Thus me assigning a Diabetic experiment so mind blowing and it will only cost you one grape, one test strip and one drop of blood. My doctor and his staff (and all of the perfect little Diabetics I have met on internet message boards over the years) have always preached about washing your hands before testing your sugars. Well, I have had my ups and downs with this topic for years ( I lit… Continue

BEING ONLINE WITH A LOW BLOOD SUGAR

Super quick blog...Stop me if you think that you've heard this on before, I am sure over the years of vlogging/blogging there have been several people that have brought this up. When I have a low and I am online, I will just type the first thing that comes to my mind ( no thought behind it or thinking of the consequences , you know the don't screw with me type mentality, come on I know you know ;))... kinda like being drunk or tipsy. I flat out say what is on my mind...anyone else experience thi… Continue

L.W SIMONS :(

I have been lucky enough to be friends (online) with the most wonderful woman for the past seven years, L.W. Simons. She had just passed her 66th year with Type 1 Diabetes (June 2009), I had been trying to reach (via TU messaging) her for the past several days with no response, one hour ago I received this TU message from her daughter... This is LaNee. I am L W Simons' daughter. I am sorry to inform you that my mother passed away on July 29, 2009. She fell down a flight of stairs in her… Continue

GETTING CLEAN IN SIN CITY #2 (STORY OF MY LIFE)

2 of 3 And now for the second part of "getting clean in Sin City (story of my life)"... I need to set this up correctly (taping finger). My girlfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip to see my sister in the early months of 2002. My sister had lived in Huntington Beach, California since 1984. I was very familiar with Orange County and loved visiting her as much as possible. We would be staying Friday night with her, cruising up to the Hollywood area for one (Saturday) night (hit up a few c… Continue

GETTING CLEAN IN SIN CITY #1 (STORY OF MY LIFE)

1 of 3 In my first blog here at TU (9th grade English Class), I promised to write about the most difficult years of my life with Type 1 Diabetes, my twenties. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, I have lived here for 37 years. It is highly possible to find yourself at some point in a downward spiral real quick in a city full of adult temptations....
