There are a lot of different ways people celebrate World Diabetes Day, this year I decided to participate and be a part of the planning committee of a luncheon at
Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center. I have volunteered at the health center since the age of 9. Nina Howard is the Director of Community Relations at Samuel U. Rodgers; they have 3 luncheons a year (Breast Cancer, Heart Health and Diabetes). This year she wants to focus on Diabet…

It doesn’t matter where I am or what I’m doing I can always spark a convo about diabetes. It’s cool to see people talk about diabetes. How diabetes affects them and their family. I’ve heard alot of great success stories. I’ve read alot of horror stories but recently I was able to hear Jane’s story from her sister. I have thought about Jane everday since last Saturday. I couldn’t shake her or get her off my mind. I know things happen for a reason… I decided to share Jane’s (fake name) story with…

I wrote a blog a few months back called
My 7 "Bad" Habit's as a Diabetic. I am slowly making adjustments, working on them. Heck, the hardest thing is saying no to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and I said "NO" today. I know it's minor but I am proud of myself for not taking a piece. I am not ready to introduce the Cups back in my life...I am own a mission and I know I can't control myself. So--Out of sight, Out of my min…

This weekend I experienced a lot of HIGH numbers not sure why. I thought it was my POD, I changed it and my bg’s are still out of control. I haven’t felt this out of sink, in a very long time! On top of my HIGH bg’s I wasn’t a nice person to be around. I am sure I am not the only person who has experience DMS. I know some people get them when they are extremely low but I am the total opposite. DMS (Diabetic Mood Swings) is worse than my PMS swings.
This weekend I experienced a lot of HIGH numbe…

While I was on vacation I received my latest A1C. I thought my A1C would be higher than it was; wishing it could be a little lower than last time. The good thing is my A1C stayed the same. I am still 6.3! No complaints, at least I didn’t go higher. In 3 months I plan on having an A1C of 6.2....

Tuesday I went to the Endo and I had a lovely visit with Wesley. I was a little jealous because he was able to hook his Onmipod pathfinder software up and it actually worked. The software isn't that bad; if you can get to work. I was able to see my trends which weren't too bad but I noticed after my evening meals, I have been pretty high (140-180). I understand why, it's a little hard for me to measure home cooked meals. Wesley changed my inulin to carb ratio to 1:12 after 4pm to help me out a l…

The other day I was talking to a new friend (TuDiabetes.com) and she mentioned her new pump, the Ping. She was very excited about it. I asked how big it was, she said about the size of the small pager. I thought that was pretty cool. She said it is nice and it doesn’t bulge out like the Pod…lol I told her a few months ago, if someone would have asked me if I would use a traditional pump, with all the wires, I would have said, “NO”. I have to say I would take the “NO” back. Not because I hate the…

Yesterday, I attended a going away ceremony for my Husband’s unit. We arrived at 5:15 pm, 15 minutes early and the ceremony didn’t start until 6:00. Scott said he we wouldn’t be long but for anyone who is close to someone who is or who has been in the Military knows that could mean anything. I think this one time I wanted it to be true…NOT TAKE LONG.!!! Guess what, it took long! My Husband is very involved in his unit and I should have known better, but this time I thought it...
If you would li…

I am excited right now! I just jumped off the phone with my Mom. I am in Cali and she is in MO. She is the Community Relations person at her job which happens to be a non-for profit health center in Kansas City, MO and she has a radio show. She does shows about health and I told her I am glad she has a show for diabetes but I think she should actually put a name with the Disease.

There isn’t one person who has Diabetes who hasn’t cheated. I know I have and I actually do it once a month, do I feel bad and regret it after I cheat? yes, I do. We all know diabetes doesn’t like to be cheated on. It repays you by giving you readings of 245 and makes you sleepy tired. Is it worth it? Is it worth feeling normal and giving in to temptation every once in a while? I think so, I think it keeps me sane and when I do eat a kid scoop of ice cream from “Maggie Moo’s” I don’t over indulg…

I am sad because I am going to miss all of my Diabetic Buddies. I am happy because I will be starting classes this fall.

I was talking on the phone to this young lady at BC (verifying benefits). For some strange reason I blurted it out I have to eat lunch. The young lady on the other end said you need to eat before your blood sugar is low...lol I said I know I am a diabetic and I have to watch out for low BG's. She said she was sorry she didn't mean to offend me. I let her know she didn't and I wasn't ashamed of my diabetes. She said she thinks she may have diabetes but her Dr won't test her for it. She also said…

I am not sure what's going on for the past week I have been getting the shakes, like I am low. I check my BG's and I it's at 89. I have never felt low at 89 before until now. I always felt low at anything below 70 not 89. I am not sure what's going on and I don't have an Endo appointment until next month...If anyone reads this please let me know what this could be or if I should worry...
Thank you

When I went to my Endo last week he asked me if I was interested in the CGM. I let him know that I was, Me being the type of persistant person that I am...I called my Endo's office today and I asked if the form had been faxed to Dexcom, the office MA said it was faxed on June 17. I let her know I haven't been contacted by the company or even a Rep. She gave me the phone number to my local Dexcom Rep. I talked to him for a few minutes. He asked me what insurance I had...I told him Tricare. He sai…
