Hypafix for Pods

Love this stuff... just learned about it. It is the same material as the stuff that holds down the pods... it can be used horizontally to hold down a pod or cut in small pieces to hold down an edge that is coming off... how ever you need it.. it sticks great to the pod adheisive stuff...and really helps stop the…

Break Through!!! Temp. Basal Decreases and Activity

I think I just had a break though w/T on the reasons he needs to put a temp decrease on when he does cardio like gym. He woke up 193 today... and by lunch was 93 and did not put on a temp. So... I told him.. ok.. that is a 100 point drop... what if you woke up 120 then did gym w/out a temp decrease??? Where would you be by lunch? His eyes went wide and he said.... "On the floor??" YES!!! So tonight he went to our basement gym and worked out and guess what he used....... a TEMP DECREASE!!! Wooo… Continue

PUMP WARS? Kinda like CAR WARS... Silly if you ask me.

Since my son was diagnosed in 2009 I have been soooo blest w/ the friends I have made on line both here at TuDiabetes and on Twitter. I really don't think I could have made it though all of this as well with out the DOC but I do have one observation that I feel we all know about but don't want to admit that we do....

We all want to defend our ...or our kid's pump like if it was a car we loved.... or if the car (pump) doesn't do what we like it to we want to go and tell everyone about the… Continue

Turned OFF the alarm...and went back to sleep!

I know...as a parent of a Diabetic child we worry all the time... we wake up in the middle of the night to correct and fix and be there for our kids...but at some point... they will be on their own...so we also have the worry of making sure when that time comes...they are ready.

My son is 16. He is 100% capable and knowlegeable about his diabetes. If I wanted to just "stop" helping him....he would be able to do everything on his own. He is a great kid and most of the time...very… Continue

A Mom's Worries

My son is coming up on his one year point. He was diagnosed on November the 14th 2009. Yes.. I know why that date is ironic... it is World Diabetes Day...guess he celebrated it in a big way last year.

Over all.. everyone would be saying we are doing well.... His A1C is at 7.0... not bad..could be better and his weight since going on the Omnipod pump hasn't gone up much at all. Most days he feels good....with days of highs and lows which are to be expected. But.... are we really doing… Continue

Questions...questions..too many variables

My son is on the Omnipod. So far he loves it. In fact he says if he had a choice...he'd never go on a tubed pump and that he would do MDI before a tubed pump...so Omnipod...right now is the only pump he'd ever concider... but I am concerned about some of the questions that keep popping up in my head about the pods.

I am suspecting that the pods do not always fully prime and fire "blanks" at first and this is the reason for his highs after a pump change.

I am not…

A battle lost??...can I get him to eat better at age 15??

I never thought I would be a "blogger"...what ever that means. However, writing down my feelings has been very theraputic for me and in many ways I blog to my friends on Twitter ...just in 140 words or less...everyday.

My son, who was newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, has never been a good eater. When he was born he was both lip and tounge tied and I could not successfully nurse him. Oh I tried...believe me...I tried. The doctors didn't believe in cutting the skin that made him…

Roller Coaster-Roller Coaster!!!!

We went to Hershey Park today. This was the first amusement park experience since my son was diagnosed. I was curious as to how this would effect his numbers. I asked some twitter friends and got different opinions... some say it didn't effect them much and other said it would increase from the excitement then level off due to the exercise.

Well ... he woke up a little on the high side.....out to eat the night before. Then corrected and dosed breakfast. Then we went to the park. He…

Pre Pump Nerves

I know... everyone tells me....that going on a pump will make my son's life soooooo much easier. I want that for him. However, I have the pump sitting in the dining room right now and on Thurdsay the 20th he gets it put on for the first time. I am nervous about it. Things are going sooo well right now on the pens. I have researched/read books/ learned so much about everything that I have him in fairly tight control now. He give himself the shots but I help w/most of the rest. I am worried than… Continue

Update on the Teacher that was rude to my Son

She never called back. So my son asked her...did you get my mom's voicemail??? The teacher said..."NO, I didn't see it". So, my son gave her my phone # and told her that I wanted to talk to her...this was on Friday. She never called. I talked to the nurse. She wanted me to go to the adminstration and deal with it there. I told her I would rather send an email that requests for my son to leave class...10 minutes early w/out a pass so that he can test before he get on the bus or bikes home.…

How can a Teacher be so Insensitive

I am sure....that everyone in this community has had people who say and do the wrong thing when it comes to your treatment due to diabetes. Well...my son was just diagnosed on November 14 of this year, so he is pretty new at all of this and so am I. So when he was treated poorly by a teacher...it really upset him and me. Here is what happened yesterday.

My son is still on pen injections. At his school they do not have them test their BG in the classroom.... they have them go to the nurses… Continue
