In My Opinion – INSULIN Is A Lifesaver!

I have been a Diabetes Type2 since August 2004. I have tried Avandia, Amaryl, Avandamet, Glipizide, Metformin and Januvia over the course of 4 ½ years trying to get my Blood Sugar levels to a consistent low. But all this has been to no avail. And in February of 2009, I went to a new Endocrinologist and she took me off of EVERYTHING and started me on Humalog, Lantus and small doses of Metformin. In the last 6 weeks, my levels have never been this low. I couldn’t be ha… Continue

Diabetes doesn't slow Dallas Stars' Toby Petersen

There was an article on the front page of the Sunday Dallas Morning News that had a feature story on Dallas Stars' (NHL Hockey) Toby Peterson's diabetes. Tells how he and his team mates monitor his Type1 Diabetes during practices and games. It also gives an example of the typical meal plan he uses. Very well written and much needed for "OUR" awareness.

Obsession !!

Sometimes as a diabetics, it really helps in our "therapy" to just write and ramble on. Sorta like just unloading what is on our chest or what is on our minds. I really dont know what made me think of this subject but I was thinking about it on the drive to my job this morning. I am… Continue

Time for me 2 VENT

I believe we all get to the point at some time with this disease that we are fed up. I think my time has come now. I had my Endo appointment today and things didn’t turn out as good as I wanted them. I stick my finger 4 times a day and now she wants me to do it at a minimum of 6. And to top it all off, my meds were increased as well. I am now taking a new regime (for diabetes) of 10 mcg of Byetta, 10 milligrams of Glipizide twice a day and 500 milligrams of Metformin a day. To me, this is a majo… Continue

I am back and here to stay

Well not to scare everyone, but I am back after a lengthy absence. I apologize to some of you for not answering all your emails or comments but I had some issues that had to be worked out. I was sort of feeling unwelcome but now know what it really was about. I am ready to tackle this disease head on and also am now ready to give my 2 cents on what I know to everyone. WOW, it feels good to be back home at “Tudiabetes”. Look out, here I come………………………… Continue

Life is making a good turn

Well Thursday was a great day. I saw my Endo for the second time since she put me on the Byetta shots. She is the greatest, I should have had this doctor since I was diagnosed with Diabetes but hind sight is 20/20. I was taking 5mcg of the Byetta and she put me on 10 mcg of Byetta. Since I have been on it my blood sugar numbers have dropped from 228-320 to an average of 160 post meal blood sugars. I have been luck enouogh to have some of my blood sugar numbers in the 120 range. I know this not t… Continue

A new beginning for me

I am following some of the advice from our fellow TuDiabetes members. I have created a website blog for myself (www.DiabeticVIP.com) to help myself vent some of my feelings down on virtual paper. I hope this works. All I have so far is the title page and Manny's site listed as well as Guest Comments but I will have more posted and listed in the next couple of days. I still have my original site that I built to help myself when I got diagnosed. The more t… Continue

Sorry for the TuDiabetes Absence

First of all, I want to apologize for not answering all my Home Page Comments, Discussion Comments and my Emails. I have been out of pocket for the last week or so. I have been really trying hard to deal with my diabetes. Sometimes it really takes a toll on me and my mental well being. It seems like having this disease, can be a life long battle or struggle. It has a lot of up and down days. Since I was put on Byetta, Metfornin and Glipizide about 5 weeks ago, my blood sugar levels have dropped… Continue

Not a good day

I don't expect comments from this, this is just me venting my frustrations. Over the last couple of days my vision has gotten worse and today I got up and my vision is blurry. I mean major blurry. So I called Opthomologist and the nurse said they could see me next week. When I reminded her that I was diabetic, she said that they can see me at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I am so relieved. The thing that gets me most is the publics lack of awareness of diabetes. Someone can have breast cancer or kidne… Continue

Feeling the effects of Byetta

Well this day 4 since I started taking the Byetta 5mcg. I seem to be tired alot and my insides keep churning. I did speak with the Nurse at my Endo Office and she said that is normal and should subside in a week or two; that my body has to get used to the addition of this medicine. I have also felt that I am not as hungry as I used to be. There is nothing major, just wanted to let everyone know how my 1st week is going. Continue

The start of a new regimen

As of yesterday, I am no longer taking Januvia. My Endo has put me on Byetta 5mcg twice a day. I am also taking:

Metformin 1000mg 2 x Day

Glipizide 10 mg 2 x Day

Neurontin 300mg 1 x Day

and many other pills for different diabetes related problems. Not to mention that I now have to test my BS at least 6 times a day and I have to keep a log of all the Carbs that enter my system. Guess I am now considered a "Carb Counter". This is the start of a new era for me and my

Frustrated with my levels

Yesterday (1-31-2008) was a real mind blower for me. This new drug Januvia is the pits. My levels have never been the same since I was taken off of Avandia. I do want to add that I do have an appointment with my Endo the 7th of Febuary. I do know that being off of Avandia is better for my heart, my heart rate is better as well as my blood pressure and I dont have the heart muscle cramps any more but my levels are not the same. I am on max dose of Januvia and I am an avid carb counter, I count ev… Continue

The beginning of a New Year!

Well, this is the beginning of another year. Can you believe that it is 2008 already? However like every new year there comes the New Years Resolutions, mine this year will be short and sweet. First of all is to dedicate more time and resources with family and friends (make new friends as well) then there is the ones for Diabetes. I have to gain a better control of this disease before it consumes me. I need to exercise
