Still alive

Well the past few months have been extremely hard. We have dealt with DD, not check her BG and not taking insulin. Dr. has recommended the pump, in fact demanded it. She said "the pump can't lie." So DD has been approved 100% for a meditronic 722. It should arrive tomorrow. We will take classes over Christmas Break and she will start using it. Hopefully it will make things a little easier for her. Along w/not having to be embarrassed around her friends or in class. She recently had a Teacher mak… Continue

Experimenting

I am happy to say that Maddy and I are up to experimenting with her insuling (i know, i know I normally don't do things like that). The reason, our Dr. gave us the wrong appt time (or more like I wrote it down wrong, I think I did the "I heard what I wanted to hear, thing) and wrote it down wrong. So we missed the appt. The next av. appt is in Aug. So in an effort to get her BG down we have upped her insulin smidgens at a time. I am pleased to announce that the other day while out and about she… Continue

getting better

Hello everyone! I know that I have been gone for a while. I needed a break from everything to get it all straightened out with my daughter. Things are not 100% perfect and they never will be. However she is back home now and we are both in therapy. She is going for her diabetes as well. I hope it does us some good. Anyway we are all alive and doing better. Thanks for all of your prayers (please don't stop we still need them) and all of that good mushy stuff. I will try to start coming around mor… Continue

Update

I met with the Family Therapist today. He is going to see Maddy starting Thursday. We talked a little today about what is going on with her and in our home. I am glad that we are going to get the help. I must say that looking back I see that I had made a mistake by letting her leave. Not only is it Killing Me, He said that I relinquished my some of my power as a parent to her. He also said that it might be hard to get her to come home. And the longer she is gone the least likely she will come ho… Continue

Worst Day of My LIfe

I have had some pretty rough days in my life time. I have to say none were as bad as Saturday. My Hubby, Maddy and I got into a HUGE fight on Saturday. She proceeded to tell me that she hated my husband and hated living in our house. She told me that she was done and did not want to live there anymore, she had plenty of places that she could go, and would rather live on the streets than live in my house. Maddy's BG has not been under control in over a month. WE have been working with the Dr. cha… Continue

New Dr. Call

Well after changing out both Insulin Pens and changing the insulin/carb ratios and bedtime dosage, DD's numbers are still really High. Dr. wants to change bedtime dosage from 20 to 25. And get this, she wants me to give DD's shots!!! I said okay. I sent DD a txt msg and let her know, but I told her that she could still do her shots and I would just watch. She is very upset, but I did tell her that she is at the age where she forgets #1, and is a teenager and they tend to think that bad things do… Continue

Dr. Call

Well DD's numbers have been extremely Hi. You know that you are Hi when all the meter will tell you is Hi. Its pretty scary. SO far her ketones have been negative every time (except maybe once). We called the Dr. together yesterday and I put her on speaker phone so that DD could have some input on the conversation as well. The Dr. asked right over if she had been taking her insulin. Yes she has, I know that the #'s are high. And it seems that when she knows her numbers are high she test less. I… Continue

Decisions

Well I had a long talk with DD this weekend. We had an incident that she was chatting on her phone at like 1 in the morning. We usually don't allow texting when she is at home. We figure that we are the people that we set up the texting for (so she could get ahold of us) So normally her phone is supposed to be off. So I was a nosey mom and read her msgs. I know I know. Privacy etc. I was shocked at some of the things she was saying to people Im not going to post them or even be specific because… Continue

Sick Days

Well we have officially had our first round of sick days with Keytones. :( Maddy has influenza type B. I was a little upset at this because we actually got the stupid flu shot! and here she ends up with the flu anyway. So now for the first time ever she has keytones, and not just a little, but purple, 160! so I call the Dr. and followed her instructions - 2 carbs, cover for the carbs and plenty of water, and peeing. check every 4 hrs. BG has been all over the place, from just above normal all th… Continue

Endo Appt.

We had an endo appointment yesterday. DD wasn't too happy, her A1c jumped up to 7.4 from 7.1. Which is really not bad, but she's not happy, things are changing and then she stresses about it. Its that never ending circle. We asked about the pump, but the Dr. said that she doesn't really have luck getting ins. to pay for the pump before the patient has had diabetes for 9 mo. But she was extremely positive about DD getting the pump. we aren't going for the iPort either she gave us smaller needles.… Continue

OmniPod

WE got our Omnipod trial in the mail yesterday. I must say I was amazed at how small it was. It looks great. However I could not get the software that they sent to work on my Mac. Man I need to get a newer mac so I can open those kinds of things. :( Probably wont be anytime soon. I do love my Mac though. Other than that I think its going to be a great fit for DD. I also want to talk to the Dr. about hypo-unawareness. I have seen some people here have it. DD doesn't seem to notice that she is goi… Continue

Well today is the day. I am going armed with a print out from the Office of Civil Rights outlining Hidden Diseases (which includes Diabetes). However they say it has to interferer with her normal life. However Yesterday and today she has been dealing with High's at school. Yesterday she went to PE and BG was 209 (high but ok to exercise). Um Guess not. She checked her BG in the next class like always - 300! She excused herself and went to the nurse for Keytone check - Neg. COvered with INsulin.… Continue

Email From Counselor

I just received this email from Maddy's counselor: I was hoping to get together with you to discuss your concerns with regard to Madison’s health .I would like a better understanding of her condition and your concerns. If a that time we believe the 504 is the best way to go. Then if we think a 504 is required we will have to meet with all of Madison’s teachers ,the nurse, the school psychologist and myself. This will have to be a 3:15 meeting because all of the teachers have different preps. Le… Continue

Call from Counselor

Well our 504 process has begun. I emailed the school principal a couple of weeks ago and asked what the process was and if he could help me. He passed my email on to the appropriate people. This morning I get a call from Dh asking if something was the matter and if DD was in trouble. I said "no" I didn't think she was, just a couple of F's on assignments, but she was making 1 of them up. why. Said that the counselor called and left a msg. on phone at home and said if we already knew about this t… Continue

Hubby's Dr. Appt.

After finding this site and seeing that there are actually different types of Diabetes I had DH ask his endo about getting the GAD test and a C-Peptide test to see what his pancreas functions are. He is on insulin and pills. He has been on insulin for a very long time. I thought it would be a good idea, especially if he were looking into getting a pump. His numbers have been great since the dr. has changed the type of insulin he takes. So the Dr. said that he didn't really need to run these test… Continue

Dr. Visit

Well our Dr. visit went great. The dr. showed me how to give DD a glucagon shot if I should ever need to. (crossing fingers to not ever have to do this). She said that DD's A1c dropped from 7.8 to 7.1 and that is GREAT! She didn't need to see us for at least 2 months. Yippie. No insulin change. Patting DD on the back for a good job!! Christmas was great for us. We all got great gifts and got to spend quality time with our relatives! We were very thankful that they were all there! Continue

Crazyness

Well It seems something is going on with dd. Her numbers are starting to jump up again. I really thought that we had it pegged this time, and that they would stay stable for a while. However now they are up in the 200 and 300 range again. Not really consistently, but she is getting Frustrated. I think I might know 1 reason why its happening, but I am not sure. Is there a Ladies group that we can ask Feminine questions to? We had a nice little light show last night from Mother Nature. ~8:o) Not a… Continue

Doing Good

Well DD's numbers are doing great. In the last week she has only had 2 numbers above 199. This is a great achievement for her. The Dr. has decided that she will leave her plan as is for right now. She told me to watch for trends of her numbers going up. So far she has been in the low hundreds and sometimes dipping below. DH's numbers are doing better after Dr. putting him on Novalog and Januvia. He is just getting over a cold so he is waiting for the numbers to come back down. He hasn't lost any… Continue

Call In

Well we have had our 1st adjustment in the carb / BG overage ratio. Our Dr. has us Call in after 6:00 PM (yup thats right she takes house calls!!!). So our 1st round of numbers werent that great. But it is progress and major learning curve. Especially for someone who hates math (ahem Maddy). Well Today is turkey day and we have much to be thankful for. WE are now off to eat some breakfast and take baths. Have a Wonderful day!! Continue

1st appt.

Well our first appointment was AMAZING!! The dr. was so awesome. She even answered her own phone! I was in shock. She did change the way DD does her insulin. She is doing a insulin to carb ratio now. SO we are learning a little more about all of this. And how to cover the big numbers. Hopefully these get under control and we don't have to see them anymore :D. I have to call her on Wed. to let her know how the ratio she set up for us is going. Right now it is 1/c and 1/50 >100 So hopefully thi… Continue
