I thought I should write up about what I have been using on and off for the past couple of months. I will be retiring this device in exchange for a pump :) *this blog is dedicated to my favorite costumer service rep Brando ;) I am just going to write up what I think about it - and some of what I know. For full details you should refer to their website. This type of therapy can be convenient for those who use MDI. The iPort Injection port can be compare… Continue

Blog 010. Discouraged?

I'm not sure if discouraged is the right word for how I feel. I went to go talk to my doc after I got my pump in (I haven't connected yet) My mom had asked her a question- can't remember what she asked But my doc said that she does not expect anything to improve on the pump. She did say my a1C of 6.2 was very good; but the pump wont make it any better. All she said was it would make living with the D easier, but it wouldn't improve my control. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the remark?… Continue

Blog 008. A Diabetic In Waiting -- Pt. 2 Oh Please, Oh Please, Oh Please!

To continue my from my previous blog; here is what has happened since then. Once i was able to give animas the new number to my doctors current hospital; they were able to correspond with her and get the necessary paperwork. BUT, and with my life-- there seems to always be a big fat but- i had lab work done in mar 09. when my nurse put in the request she accidentally put the date as mar 08. when i went to the lab, the lab man was nice enough to just let me take the requested labs without having… Continue

Blog 007. A Diabetic In Waiting

I have been in touch with Animas and my endo non-stop it seems for the last couple weeks in regards to the arrival of my ping. Initially, my new endo (which i saw on 19 march 09, for the first time) described obtaining a pump as a grueling process; so i was preparing myself mentally for the future hurdles. Surprisingly, Animas made great time and handled more for me than i thought they would. My endo said it would probably take a month plus for a pump to actually become ready for me. I got a c… Continue

Blog 006. Goal! New a1c

I got my results back in reference to my a1c taken on 16 March 2009. My last a1c was taken 19 December 2008, and I really wasn't taking care of myself like I should have been- that a1c was 8.4. And now I am very happy to say in three months I have taken it back down to a 6.2!! I know I don't have perfect diabetic health and my habits are for from perfect- but I do believe all the effort I put into my management really paid off :) Acceptance is key, once I was able t… Continue

Blog 004. Books and Diabetes Technology!

The title pretty much explains what I have been up to for the last week. I have an appointment with my new specialist in about a week and a half and plan on discussing pump treatment! I have rejected the thought of pump system - finding the tubing process quite unappealing. I started using i-port injection ports about a month and a half ago. I was off to a rough start with them; my first box that came was defected and the "soft cannula" would bend upon insertion. Once i switched boxes and got m… Continue

Blog 003. Most Memorble Diabetic Moment.

By memorable—I mean funniest. Mentioned before, I was diagnosed with diabetes on November 14, 2007. For that year’s thanksgiving my boyfriend, at the time, and I had planned for him to come visit. So the week before his arrival I was spending most days at the hospitals being pricked numerously for labs and reasons long forgotten. I had a few educational sessions with my nurse educator and my doctor, at the time. But being very new to T1DM, it was tons of information to digest. Well on the… Continue

Blog 002. Oh Those Tender Moments.

Stated from my previous blog, I would have never went in for a physical the day I was diagnosed if my new job did not require one. The day after I was diagnosed I went into work to fill out leave slips-- since the doctors needed me to go to two different hospitals for supplies and educate me on them. Well, after all that. I still needed to go into the office with my boss and fill out more leave slips because my doctors didn't know whether to treat my hyperthyroidism or the diabetes first and the… Continue

Blog 001. My Diagnosis

Since I'm new to this site and everyone has their own history with diabetes-- I thought I'd take some time and write about mine. Three or four months before the doctors found the diabetes, like most others, I was peeing almost every half hour—just like clock work; Obviously from consuming outrages amounts of water. I became so thirsty I that only water would quench my thirst (I always drank sodas, juices, and sweet teas). But that did not ring any bells for me as a symptom to a life changing pr… Continue
