CGMS approval for my daughter!

I wanted to share my big excitement of today.

I just opened my mail and there was a letter from the Medical Review group, overturning my previous denial by a health insurance group for a CGMS for my daughter!

It only took a couple of months, two looooong letters, and a lot of hope, and now, I am so close to it & I just need to figure out what I am supposed to do next :-)

Oh, the best part is that MiniMed rep told me I was the first patient she knew of on Cigna Health

Worst few weeks ever

Ok, this is not really related to Diabetes, I just feel like if I vent, I will feel better.

To get a good idea of what my last couple of weeks have been, I present the list:

  • I work for a company that is closing it's doors on one of it's locations, Colorado Springs. I love the location, but if I want to stay with the company, I need to move. I was offered a bonus, if I stay till "End of Pruduction". I can use the money, so I accepted the contract. A week before it was due t

School Ignorance

I just wanted to post here my recent experience with an Elementary school, their handling of my daughter's diabetes, and see if this strikes a cord with anyone else.

Last week I got a pretty scary call from her school at about 2:00pm, or about two hours after her lunch. They informed me that my daughter was found wandering the hallways, confused and weak (oh, did I mention, she is only 6 years old). When approached, she fell on the floor, yet no

Stressful day

Not much to write about today, it was a pretty slow but busy day overall, until about 3pm..

I got a phone call with a panicking babysitter on the other end. I have a teenager babysitter who I hired for the Summer at a pretty good price and she comes to the house, so i don't even have to get kids ready in the morning ;-)

I know we went over all the testing techniques and what to do's and not to do's and in a split moment it's all done! In part it is my six year old's fault too. S

Home again

Another trip for us. This time back home from OR... I got to tell you, this is one LONG drive. I told myself, that on the way back, I am taking my time and instead of two days, I will do it in three. I slept in on Friday morning to make sure I have plenty of energy to drive. Packed a night before, so all I had to do is load the luggage in the truck, load the kids and stop by a local store to get some ice for my cooler.

I get on my way, get all I need to get done, stop by the store to g

Long Drive

Hooray! I made it in one peice and so did my truck.

I just completed my two day drive from CO to OR and have a few "lessons learned" to share...

I took off on Friday, already running about three hours behind the schedule. The night before I realized the I can't fit all the stuff in the back of a truck and needed to attach my overhead unit. So, here I was at midnight climbing out there with a flash light, looking for the bolts.

The drive itself wasn't too eventful, lots of

Summer highs

Oh, I am so frustrated with the out of control highs this summer! Of course, I am not the one who has to endure the discomfort of the high readings, it's my six year old.
I am not quite sure what happened here, we were doing so well on the new pump... Two months after starting on the pump, her A1C went down from 8.2 to 7.3. I though we were heading in the right direction, but not any more, I am afraid.
I think Summer (and not being in school) brought out the constant s
