I hate to admit it but I have been a fan of Army Wives since my wife got me watching it early in the first season. Well, last week, my interest grew due to the fact that the writers of the show have introduced Diabetes into the storyline. One thing that I was very happy about was the accuracy of the information about Diabetes on the show compared to other shows that have tried to address this. I would have to say they were pretty spot on last week in their portrayal of Diabetes.

Sundays nights are usually the time for my wife and I to settle down get the kids situated for bed and then watch a few of the TV shows we like to watch. We proceeded to watch 2 of our favorites that air on HBO: True Blood & Hung. The last of the regular shows that we watch on Sunday nights is one that my wife actually got me into and now I am hooked: Army Wives. So the reason for me even mentioning this on this blog is, obviously because it is somehow related to Diabetes. Well, this past ep…

The other morning when I was headed to work, I was listening to The Johnny Dare Morning Show which is a really funny and edgy morning radio show in the Kansas City area. Johnny had a comedian by the name of Robert Schimmel on the program (this was actually pre-recorded but that is not important.) Robert Schimmel is considered by many who know and enjoy adult comedy as one of the funniest men in the world. Well, on the morning show, it was brought up how his act is largely based on his history an…

Accuracy was something I knew that I wanted to touch on but there are so many different ways to approach it, this was the reason for my delay in posting (a busy life had a little to do with it as well.) Now after a week of dwelling on it, I figured I would just start writing and see what comes of it. So be prepared for some possible ramblings.

When I began writing my last post, I had every intentions to stay on target with my original topic: Why I blog. Unfortunately, my passion for Diabetes, my friends and the defense of my own self, took control and my post became of of a defense and rebuttal on some things that I took fairly personally about my passions. Yes, I did touch on the subject of the reasons why I blog, but I do not feel like it was a complete representation. So, I thought that I would recollect my thought and give it anot…

Over the last week or so, there has been a fair amount of talk (at least in some of the Diabetes online circles) about the Roche Diabetes Care Social Media Summit that I was fortunate enough to attend. while the majority of the buzz has been positive and informational, there have been some that have not followed this trend.

These past few days, as many of you who read this blog know, I have been fortunate enough to be in Indianapolis attending the Roche Diabetes Care Social Media Summit. I will have to say that this was one of the most enjoyable trips I have had in a very long time and the reason for this is because I was fortunate enough to meet, in person, for the very frist time with so many people that I have considered my friends.

This is a question that I can pretty much guarantee that every Diabetic has thought about and has been asked on more than one occasion in their life. I know that it is the case for me.
“What would you do if you woke up and didn’t have Diabetes anymore?”

It has been 21 years since being Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes but it has really only been about 3 years since I really began looking at Diabetes seriously. Since this change, I have been very open and proactive about Diabetes and have wanted to not only manage my Diabetes better but also to help make a difference to others who are trying to do the same and do my part to help in finding a cure. I am hoping that my blog has touched, informed and helped at least one person because if it has, then…

Diabetes is defined by many official documents as a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone to argue this statement. Even though Diabetes is legally rules a disability under the ADA: Americans With Disabilities Act (kind of ironic acronym) I am sure that those of us who are Diabetic take some offense in categorizing us as “Disabled” or having a “Disability” (I know I do.) As a diabetic, I work very hard to keep my diabe…

I first wanted to thank everyone for their input on my post about my upcoming Diabetes Tattoo. While I appreciated all the comments and suggestions, the first design took the majority of the votes by a fair amount. In reading your comments, I realized that, while the first design was the better of the two, it was not yet complete.

For Valentines Day, my wife and I decided to give each other tattoos. Not exactly what most would think of as something you would give your loved one but we are both tattoo freaks, so that is what we both wanted. I decided that I really wanted to get another Diabetes related tattoo. I had been thinking about this one and knew that I wanted to get something with the WDD logo. I also knew that I wanted to get it on my wrist. I currently have the medical cross with the snakes and Type 1 Diabetes ru…

In preparation for my upcoming Endocrinologist appointment next week, I needed to have some blood work done to check my A1c and the variety of other things they look at. So I headed over to a lab that happens to be down the street from work. Being a Diabetic, getting blood drawn is almost as much of a non issue as waking up in the morning, so I never stress out or worry about going to the lab.
