Monday I am supposed to starting working at a nursing home full time.
Whitney is up to 8.6 now, but she has been throwing up, I mean projectile vomiting so I called her doctor and got her in there today. She has to go for an ultrasound tomorrow to rule out pyloric stenosis.
If she has this, she will have to have surgery. Whitney could also just simply having the flu, but the doctor wants to make sure she doesn't have pyloric stenosis since she is a preemie as this is more common in preemies.
I h…

I am so sick of well meaning people who think they know about diabetes because they have a friend with it and think they have the right to lecture me when I state I have a low blood sugar or tell me I am eating to many carbs or eating to many calories. Right now I am breast feeding and it is taking a toll on my blood sugars. I am not taking any bolus insulin before meals and I have reduced my basal insulin by 50% and I am still having lows several hours after eating meals even with a lot of carb…

Whitney got out of the NICU on Wed and Wed afternoon she saw Dr. A to make sure she was safe to travel so off we went Wed evening to head to MO. We got home on Thurs. evening. I do have to say I LOVE what breast feeding is doing to my blood sugars. I am just sticking with my basal amounts of insulin, no boluses at meal times and my blood sugar is between 80-100 and I am eating carbs and still not going to high. They told me I needed to be on a 2600 calorie diet right now. I can see why after wha…

Whitney is doing amazing. She started out on 5 ccs of formula yesterday and she is up to 20 ccs today and she isn't throwing any up. To be off the iv fluids and to be released she has to take 25 ccs and she will be up to that tomorrow. She is also maintaining her own body temperature so she might be out of the covered isolet tomorrow and into a crib, again a step closer to release.

Well on Saturday night my water broke. So I paged OB and they sent me to the hospital. They have admitted me until the baby is born. I am 34 weeks and they do not want her being born to early, but they are not stopping the contractions nor are they inducing labor. At this point they are monitoring me to see if she is in distress, she still has some fluid she is in and will let labor go naturally until it is to a point where her or I are in distress. They told me that regardless she is looking at…

Woke up this morning with a bad cramp in my stomach a few hours later I started spotting so I called OB and they got me in this afternoon. Heartbeat was strong and baby was very noisy, but I am 1 cm dilated. I am on bed rest as much as possible. No heavy lifting. I am only about 37 weeks pregnant.

Holidays went great. I flew to MO to spend time with my nephew and family. Other than a good meaning citizen telling the flight attendant I had something suspicious attached to my body I had no problems with security. The flight attendant came over to me and asked me about my pump, as soon as she saw it she knew what it was so it wasn't an issue. I also had a doctor's note on hand in case I needed that as well. I had few low issues while flying but overall my blood sugar stayed stable while I wa…

I am leaving tomorrow to go to Missouri for a week. I packed all my medical supplies up today and I took a picture of it all. I so wish traveling was easier, but I have a method to making it easier to get through security. I pack everything in ziplock bags so if they want to search my bag it is easier for them. I have a total of 15 quart size ziplock bags. I made sure I packed enough supplies in case something happens and I get stranded as well.

Today marked the end of my second semester of college. I managed to make a 4.0 for this semester. Cumulative GPA is 3.0. I am applying for a scholarship to be able to take 15 hours of class starting in Jan. to get my degree all that much faster. I wrote an amazing 8 page essay on the pancreas. I was able to use Dr. Faustman's research in my paper. It was worth 150 points and I got all 150 points on it. My instructor said she was very impressed with my paper and that she learned a lot about the p…

I got put on steroids Fri for a sinus infection that moved into my chest affecting my lungs and bronchial tubes. Between Friday and this morning I went through 300 units of insulin trying to keep my sugars under control. My doctor and I were doing our best to keep me off of them but none of the antibiotics are helping. I am finally breathing easier so I am hoping that things will go easier now.
My gynocologist did some lab work on me as he thought I had PCOS. My doctor walks into the room and sa…

Woke up Tuesday having shortness of breath trying to just walk down the stairs. Called Doctor, got in to see him and found out the sinus infection I had last week didn't go away and moved to my chest. Being asthmatic with a chest cold doesn't go good together. I got put on even stronger antibiotics than the previous week, inhaled steroids, and my albuterol inhaler every 4 hours round the clock. Got told if I wasn't better by Friday to page him. Thanksgiving and again I cant walk up and down the…

I got my sample package of Sure T's and Polyfins yesterday. I was due a site change so I decided to try a Sure T in my thigh. I have had no luck with infusion sets in the thighs, they all bruise my thighs including the Sils. So I put it in, no pain, felt great unlike any other set. Normally I have pain immediately on insertion so I am thinking to myself ok I can handle this. Few hours later I go to give myself a bolus for my dinner, burns like hell. As soon as the bolus is over the pain is gone.…

I am fighting sinus infection so of course I am fighting higher than usual blood sugars. Last night I ate taco salad for dinner, blood sugar was in a good range, was 113, i figured up about 20 grams of carbs because of the chips. 10 minutes after I eat, I start feeling shakey, sick to my stomach, sweating, then I threw up my dinner, with about 6 active units of insulin in me. Something I hadn't felt in months. I checked my CGMS it said 84, but since I was feeling like I was I double checked with…

Today I went to take a math test. I have an A in Algebra, an A on all tests and all assignments, and somehow I managed to flunk a quiz. Now I check my blood sugar before I take a test to make sure I am stable. If I am under 100 I won't take it until I know for sure my sugar isn't going to drop, I also have the CGMS to help monitor my sugar. I was good I was 110 and no arrows going up or down so I knew sugar was good. I emailed my instructor and told him my blood sugar crashed middle of test to s…

School is good, A's in everything. Algebra instructor asked me to be a math tutor, but I am going to turn it down. It is volunteer position but I don't want to compromise school grades over it. Anatomy is great, I am going to be writing a paper on the pancreas. Seems like everything I do paper wise is diabetic related. My instructor said she is excited to read about the pancreas and the disorders of it. Health wise, blood sugars are still doing great. As far as eyes go, I had to reschedule that…

Well school started back up yesterday. So far it is going good. Second day of class and I am already working on homework for week 2 in Algebra. The class comes so easy to me that I can breeze right through. In fact my instructor told me I don't have to come to class unless I want to. The other class is Anatomy and Physiology. A lot of terms to learn but so far it isn't bad. I have to do a paper on an organ or a body system. I am debating between pancreas or endocrine system. Seems like all my pa…
