By the numbers

Viewing the interview in Channel 22 Los Angeles where Jose Ronstadt interviews Dr. Cesar Rey, I was amazed by some of the statistics.

According to Dr. Rey the statistics place Diabetes as the disease that is growing at the fastest rate in the US.

Every year 800,000 people is diagnosed in the US; 1 million in Canada; and 2 million in India. That's almost 4 million people in just those three countries. It's like a new country with only diabetics is born every year. Unbelievable.… Continue

My one-month anniversary at TuDiabetes

So today is my official one-month anniversary as a volunteer for Tu Diabetes.

It's been an amazing month and it's hard to believe that it has only been one month. A lot has happened.

First and most importantly I have met incredible people. Secondly, I have learned sooo much from all of you. Thirdly, amazingly enough, the excitement about building this community has taken stress away from my job and it has made me appreciate and enjoy my family a lot more. What else could I ask?… Continue

Diabetes getting closer

As you know, I'm one of those members of TuDiabetes that is actually not a diabetic. I became aware of diabetes through my friend Manny and since he started this community I have felt compelled to help any way I can. As consequence I have learned so much from you.

Last week, my mom told that my nana's cardiologist wanted her to sho… Continue

Can you describe in one word how you feel about being touched by diabetes?

Tu Diabetes
As I sit here at home and continue to read your amazing stories I asked myself, how could we bring more awareness? how can let the world know?

Inspired by a beautiful campaign by my friend Martin Giraldo called "be part of the garden," and our great logo. I thought of a simila… Continue

Preliminary results of MySpace and Facebook

Well, I wanted to thank everyone that added us to their friends in MySpace.

In just a week we have 55 friends in MySpace!

Yesterday I started the Facebook group for TuDiabetes and we have accumulated 16 members in 24 hours. Not bad really!

I'm very impressed with Facebook. It's a much more friendly, developed and overall cooler application than MySpace.… Continue

My first day as a TuDiabetes volunteer

So, it's official, yesterday it was my first day as a TuDiabetes volunteer and what a day it was!

Following Manny's leadership I took on my first assignment: create the official TuDiabetes page in MySpace. I gotta admit that the product isn't very friendly at all. Matter of fact, it's hard to believe that it's so popular because nothing is easy to do. But, hey, after of long hours fighting with the platform and dealing with the moody servers of MySpace the page was born.

The di… Continue

My crazy idea on treating diabetes

I'm not a diabetic, but ever since my friend Manny has been diagnosed I've seen how he deals with it. I think he does a great job a keeping himself in-check and many times I forget all about it. Sometimes, however, I can see how it affects his day-to-day life.

The other day, for example, his sugar was really high and the insulin from the pump was not working or something. I told him, can I give you some of mine? I told him that to amuse him, but then I thought, what if I could do that?… Continue
