365 Days of Diabetes

Over the last 366 days (leap year added the extra challenge), I've lived my life with my camera at the ready, snapping photos of everything from CGM sensors to snacks ... and the moments in between. I thought that the Diabetes 365 project would make me feel like diabetes is an overwhelming facet of my life, but instead I've seen that diabetes truly does not define any of us. We can grab pictures of our meters and our pump sites, but there'… Continue

A Christmas Poem.

I hope everyone here had a wonderful holiday as we gear up to close out 2008! Siah (annoying little gray cat) had a productive Christmas Eve, helping Santa deliver his presents. (Here's the full Christmas poem - complete with more useless puns than should be legal.) I've been thinking about New Year's resolutions and my hopes and goals for 2009. As far as 2008 goes, I'm grateful for everything that the diabetes community has… Continue

Dusting Off The Blog

I don't update my TuDiabetes blog nearly as often as I should (slapping my own wrist - "Bad Kerri!"), but I wanted to pop back in here and say hello to everyone here! I've been reading as many blog updates as I can - we're a prolific bunch! I wanted to share my YouTube channel with you guys, because I've stumbled into the mess that is vlogging ... and I like it. :) Today I posted up a clip about the SUM vlog outtakContinue

Denied CGM Coverage.

My insurance company has denied my claim to have my CGM covered. So now we battle. I've written a letter to Oxford Health (posted on my blog) and am now waiting for Round Two of the appeal process. Diabetics and their caregivers deserve to have access to all available resources to manage their diabetes. Insurance companies should be able to put a price tag on my health, or on yours. I'm not going down without a fight, damnit. Continue

Raise Your Voice!

On April 14th, the type 1 diabetes community is encouraged to RAISE YOUR VOICE to educate people about their disease. So what can we do to raise awareness on April 14th? You can write about your diagnosis story. Maybe a post about your most challenging diabetes moment and how you handled it. How ab… Continue

Ode To Flickr.

There once was a service named Flickr,
Where my photos live - now here's the kicker:
It's easy to use
And quite fun to peruse,
I've yet to find anything slicker!

Check out my photo collection on Flickr, where I'm chronicling everything from my recent trip to Philadelphia to my proud participation in the… Continue

Tricks of the Trade

Over the last twenty-one years with type 1 diabetes, I've picked up a few tricks of the trade. One thing I learned over my last four years with an insulin pump is how to nick some insulin from my reservoir, if I'm in a pinch. Here is one photo from the set I posted on SUM:

Happy New Year's Eve, TuDiabetes! 2007 was a proud year of milestones for me, from planning my wedding to developing my voice as a writer. In honor of the last day of 2007, I've written a Year in Review post over at my blog, Six Until Me.

SOX Until Me

Again, way too much time between posts here on Tu Diabetes. Sorry for the long lapse in time! But I'm back, and hopefully will be posting around here more often.

First and foremost, the Red Sox have won the World Series - again. This may not be a big deal for people who are drawn to teams that win events on a regular basis, but to Red Sox Nation, this is a new and very long-overdue trend.

Secondly, I'm on

Stress Stinks ... Weekends Work!

What happened: Small stress meltdown.

What happened next: Big recovery, hiding out in a bed and breakfast, turning off cell phones and leaving laptops in their cases at home.

What I felt: Much freaking better. Stress rips up one side of me and down the other, both diabetes-wise and emotionally. I don't manage stress very well, so I needed a little R & R at a B & B. (Ha and ha!)

After a

LIVING with Diabetes Contest Entry: Group 1

It’s there when my sleepy hands reach out from underneath the comforter and connect with my meter case. It’s there when my eyes close at night.

It’s there when I look at wedding dresses, imagining where

A Beer and a Bolus

So am I the only one? I've been diabetic for almost 21 years, I'm in my 20's, and I go out with my friends pretty often. Am I the only one who enjoys a few drinks now and then?

I'm very responsible with my diabetes care, but there are moments when I throw caution to at least the zephyr (vs. the all-out wind). I've written about diabetes and drinking on dLife before, but yesterday I was wondering
