Diabetes Alert dog-Brody! Welcome to the family!!!

So as much as I loved the CGMS I found that during the night it would have a lot of false readings and therefore I became immune to the sensor alerts. With three precious children all under the age of 5, and my husband deployed for over a year, I decided that if anything were to happen to me I would never forgive myself (if that kids had to find me unconscious (or worse) So, right after I miscarried I met with some trainers out of PA that train service dogs. They are an amazing organization that… Continue

It's a.....

GIRL! That's right, we found out the day before my hubby deployed that we are expecting a girl! We are so excited and I just wanted to share the good news with everyone! My boys said that it's okay as long as she's a "girl-boy" (tom boy) no problem there with 2 older brothers! I can' come up with too many names that I like, so if you have any suggestions, send them my way! Say a little prayer that this pregnancy continues to stay healthy and strong! Thanks for sharing in my joy! Continue

Pregnancy number 4

I am truly blessed. I have had diabetes for over 23 years and have been blessed with two beautiful and perfectly healthy boys (4 and 2) As some of you may know, I miscarried on my son's 4th birthday while in my 2nd trimester. This was a terrible and traumatic experience for me, but one that I can be grateful for now as it has made me re-realize just how fragle life can be. It also helps me relate to so many other women who have experienced similar loss, and offer compassion. I recently found out… Continue

I am no longer pregnant...update in the making

After reading my last post I have decided that it is time to update everyone. It has been a rough couple of weeks, and on my oldest son's 4th birthday I started having horrible pains during his birthday party, and subsequently was rushed to the ER only to find out that I was miscarrying at nearly 5 months. It was awful and scary and I have been having a really tough time processing all of it, but slowly am starting to come out of it and am trying to focus on my beautiful boys and count my blessi… Continue

I'm pregnant!

I haven't even told my husband yet, but I must share the news! This is a safe place to share my ups and downs of pregnancy! So I took a test last night at home, not really expecting much as I was only one day late, and there it was as clear as day "Pregnant" (the tests now spells it out for you in case the plus or minus or two lines are too confusing!) Then again this morning I took another test as I was not convinced...and again "pregnant". Hmm, could this really be? I called up my doctor's o… Continue

One more set change and the kids will be reunited with their "best in the world" daddy!

Ok, this is it: ONE MORE infusion set change and if all goes well we'll get to see my husband a few days earlier than expected....late this weekend...anyone have any good ideas on how to celebrate his return other than the obvious banner and sweet lovin', err, ahh I mean sweet cookin'?! Something fun we could do for him when we pick him up or have waiting for him at home? I'm frantically running around to get everything together that I am drawing a blank! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Continue

Countdown to Freedom!

So the hubby will be returning from the Middle East in about 5 infusion site changes! I am looking forward to the day that I can say "the next time I have to change my tubing my husband will be here to watch the kids and give me 5 minutes to myself"! woo-hoo! If it weren't for diabetes, the count-down might seem longer-(thanks MiniMed!) DOes it seem weird that I'm counting down the days by the number of times I have to change my insulin pump site? Nah, I didn't think so...now if I were to do it… Continue

Down with Wilford Brimley & MiniMed!

Do any other diabetics out there get annoyed when they hear fatzo Wilfred Brimley say the word "diabetes"? as Dia-beee-tus? ugh! I can't stand that guy!

But if you like him, here's a funny clip:

On a different note,

I have had the worst day trying to get my supplies from MiniMed (ordered over a month ago and still waiting for them and now waiting for a

Are you sure you're diabetic? Is that tubing for bombing a plane?

Another day at the "doctor's" office....

I am fairly new to Fort Bragg, and found myself (and my two very active toddlers) at the clinic on post today-we were there for three very long hours--I needed a referral for an endo. and of course they couldn't give me one over the phone seeing as I have had type 1 diabetes for 22+ years, oh no, they required me to come into the clinic for an appt. just to have them "verify" that I am diabetic (oh what a sick joke the last 22 years have been!)
