Should you count both the carbs and calories? Or just the carbs? Is one more important then the other one? Are they equal? I am confused on this matter. Help!!

I think that you watch calories but the carbs are the most important. Calories can be made up from so many different things but may not have a lot of carbs or vise versa. L

Carbs are what will raise your blood sugar so these are probably more important to watch being diabetic. You should still watch calorie intake as far as trying to control weight though.

I guess it really depends. It depends on how tolerant you are to carbs, whether you want to lose or gain weight and all that stuff. In my case, I am intolerant to carbs (of course I am diabetic). I don't need to lose or gain weight. As long as I keep a very low carb diet, I can eat literally thousands of calories a day withough gaining weight. But everyone is different. What I would suggest is a tiered approach. Eat carbs to your meter, namely only eat as many carbs as allow you to maintain you desired level of blood sugar control. Then make changes to your total calories based on what you want your weight to do.

Thank you all for the input. I am trying to lose weight and I don't take insulin, I take oral meds. Does anyone know how many carbs you should have at each meal?

I was recommended to eat 60 at meals and 30 carbs for snacks when I was very active, but now that i'm not working and am pretty much home until school starts again, I find I don't need as many. It's kinda based on activity levels and how much you can tolerate.it might be a good idea to see if you can make an appointment with a CDE or nutritionist.

My insurance will not pay for a CDE or a nutritionist. So there is no way that I can afford that. Thank you for your help.

Oh that sucks.Sometimes I wonder if insurance is even worth the trouble at times. Well Just try and see what works best for you. If alot of carbs keeps you high than lower it and so on. Good luck.
