I got my A1c result this morning and it was ...

7.6%.

Exactly the same as my last one.

*suppresses ranting*

I feel like my control has been better these past few months than the few months before that, but obviously it hasn't really ...

I am already doing the following:
* Weighing/measuring foods I eat at home
* Not eating out
* Sticking to the same schedule/foods every day
* Exercising 30-60 minutes every day
* Testing 8-10x a day
* Reviewing blood sugar logs regularly (often daily)
* Adjusting pump settings regularly (at least once a week, sometimes more)
* Using temporary basals and combo boluses

Things I will try starting today:
* Pre-bolus by 20 minutes for all meals (using iPhone alarm)
* Eating below 30g carbohydrates per meal (not willing to go ultra low-carb)
* Try and stick to a consistent schedule as possible once work starts
* When I have the money, get a CGM trial for a week through my hospital (I have to pay for the sensor)

Not sure what else I could do to help my control at the moment, but hopefully these will help if I can keep them up consistently for the next three months.

It sure sounds like you are trying your darndest! And I really do think that counts for something! :-)
I, like you, am not willing to go ultra-low carb, but do find that limiting carbs helps, and also something I picked up on at AADE: eat the protein first. The way restaurants serve you is in exactly the wrong order: they serve bread, then salad, then the entree, whereas if you eat the protein and fat first, it is already there, working on satiety, and the fat already being present, will moderate the rise due to the carbs.

I sure hope you find something that works for you -- but don't put TOO much faith in the A1c -- we all glycate differently and some people naturally have higher A1cs than others. Just aim for your personal best, not a predetermined number. Take care! :-)

Natalie- I loved how you phrased it: "We all glycate differently..." That make me smile and giggle, and it's sooo true!!!

Jen- Don't lose heart, or motivation! You are doing a great job!! Definitely role model material. :) Just keep at it and see what happens next time. Nothing is ever perfect, not even an A1c. All we can do is try our best.
Good luck!!

I'm with you Jen. I expected my last one to be better and it hadn't budged. I had brought it from 7.3 or 7.4 to mid 6 at the previous appt. . I wanted a lower 6. And then I thought........let's celebrate the mid 6 for awhile. Can't I simply think that is good enough (at least for the moment?)

I am not a under 6 a1c at all cost kind of D. If I can safely lower it and still maintain quality of life then fine.
