So I am now officially on a pump! yayy!! I was soo scared at first putting it on but it didn't hurt at all! Pulling out the needle...didn't hurt either. I'm really happy right now. I'm still a little nervous about changing it because I'm pretty slow with all the steps but I'm sure in time I'll have it down like its a piece of cake.. :) I'm definitely loving the no more shot thing!! and I don't mind checking my blood sugar more often..rather do that more often then take lots of shots lol. So I've had this on for a couple hours so far and no problems as of yet!...Just crossing my fingers that everything works out and that I don't have to do an emergency set change before I see my CDE for a set change with her in 3 days! lol gosh I just feel so free right now...even though I do have a cord coming out of me I really don't mind it to much. My boyfriend says I'm a robot now lol Thats ok...I think he's really happy that I'm really happy now. Now I gotta pick up my daughter in an hour and see what she thinks of it..she seemed pretty excited for me this morning.. we'll see.
Comment by Scott Wilkins on May 14, 2012 at 1:00pm Just started mine a few days ago too. I'm using the Omnipod, so I really feel like I've been "assimilated by the Borg." (Star Trek reference...) Did my first change last night, and hate the new location. It's just not sitting right and bothers me. Can't wait for this pod to expire now so I can try another spot to see how well it works. The first location worked great. Oh well, gotta learn a lot of new things I guess.
The first night or two before bed, I had to stop myself once or twice from stopping to get my "nightly shot". Weird feeling, really wierd.
Comment by acidrock23 on May 14, 2012 at 3:29pm I agree it was totally wierd. I have to say that the "buzz" from the pumped Humalog "felt" (in druggie terms...) waaaay better than the R/N, where I'd sort of feel it cooking away all the time. I felt a lot more in control of stuff really quickly when I got my pump. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine!
Comment by Maycri on May 14, 2012 at 3:48pm Yay congrats!
I'm looking forward to my turn in a month from now.
Scott, if you really want to be assimilated try putting the pod on the back of your neck LOL
JUST KIDDING!!... please don't do that :/
Comment by dzinermom1 on May 14, 2012 at 6:35pm Shayla, I used to have the same problem too. Try clipping it on your bra strap or some women tuck it right in their bra. Then its not an issue. Good Luck :)
I like the longer infusion sets, something like 40 inches or so. I tried a few demo infusion sets with a 20+ inch set and found it to be very inconvenient, especially in the bathroom.
I put off getting a pump for a year but once I got one, I never went back to MDI. And that was 25 years ago. I think you made a good choice!
Comment by Trudy on May 15, 2012 at 5:05am Hi Shayla. I think a spibelt (www.spibelt.com) helps to keep the pump/tubing in place. They make a spibelt specifically for pumps that is a little bigger than the regular ones, and has a little slit for the tubing.
