OK,first of all i want to say, that i am christian...BUT,I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE'S RELIGION IS BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE'S!but,it is one of the ten commandments that to kill is a sin, well, stem cells come from aborted babies...Am i wrong for never wanting to be a part of that, even if it meant curing my diabetes for life?

Hello Shawna,
There is a discussion by Manny about stem cell research where every body put his views.
The Vatican issues its views about using embryos for research whish is the same views of Moslim leagues.
Life is sacred for God,and relegions, judism, christianity&islam are sent from the same source,God,the creator of the universe.
The stem cells can be got from placenta, produced from other cells,I posted in the discussion a late published article about getting stem cell from one;s own fibroblast which in the long run will be the hope for so many disease.Scientists are clever, when door closed they find another to discover the marvellous secrets of God's creation.

you're not wrong.
however in your defense i believe that playing God is helpful but has no neccessity. ever thought that the reason we have all these health problems that maybe we (as a species) are overstaying our welcome on planet Earth?
forgive me if it sounds horrible. if i could survive eating without insulin i would most certainly try, however thanks to medical sciences im still alive today.
so science is assisting my life at the cost of others (as far as aborted babies' stem cells)
i am a catholic christian but i dont always have the same beliefs as most of the other catholics.
im all for alternative ways to find a cure, at this day and age i feel that in years to come we will have a cure

I agree with you, Shawna. I, too, am a Christian... and I don't agree in anything that goes along with aborting babies.

Shawna I am Pantheist not christian I believe in life and nature and I agree with you. I want a cure but not at the expense of innocent babies. Life is at the moment of conception.

Denise is exactly correct. There are embryonic stem cells and there are adult stem cells.

Embryonic stem cells come from embryos.
Adult stem cells come from blood, bone marrow, fat, menstruation, placenta, mother's milk, milk teeth, the list goes on and on.

One more thing....it is ONLY the ADULT (non embryonic) stem cells that have help over 100 diseases including diabetes type 1 and 2.
