TuDiabetes - A Community for People Touched by Diabetes

Well, I had my doctor's appointment this week. Don't have the blood done yet but I am betting my A1C is done. I have lost 5 pounds since January and my blood sugars are almost dead on inline. I met the new Physicians assistant this week too. Wow, what a wonderful lady. It felt great to discuss things with her. She is into motorcycles as well and has even organized bike rides to benefit ADA in California several times and she wants to organize them here in Florida now. I told her to sign me up. I would love to help where I can. Things are really looking up.

She also is looking for volunteers to help her with a small study for Continuous BGS'. Told her to sign me up. I would love to see how this stuff works and would be willing to try it out. If it can help me in the long run. I would be willing to help.

I will post a follow up once I get the blood work done and find out my A1C.

Take Care!!

Jenny,

Thanks for your note. I did do some digging and educating myself and see what you are talking about to a degree. One issue I do have is who else provides as large an advocacy group as the ADA? I am open to all avenues, but those have not been clear to me. If there are other organizations out there that is as respected as the ADA then I am all ears. Heck even the United Way has issues.

Thanks for your insight and look forward to hearing back from you.

Steven,

Glad you are making progress. But before you start raising money for the ADA, investigate what it is that they actually have done for people with diabetes.

It isn't a pretty picture.

They do NOT use their money to fund research. They use it to "educate" and their education currently is to tell people with diabetes to keep their blood sugars HIGHER than the endocrinologist's organization recommends, to eat lots of sugar and carbs (their biggest sponsors include candy and junk food companies), to keep taking dangerous drugs like Avandia (their other big sponsors are the drug companies.)

They have fought for years against educating the public that carbs are what raise blood sugar and that lowering carbs is the safe, effective way to normalize blood sugar.

Their board is headed by ex-lobbyists who do not have diabetes and refer to people with diabetes as "poor victims." They make HUGE salaries.

Many of us who have been coping with diabetes for years believe that the ADA is one of the biggest obstacles in the way of people with diabetes getting better treatment.

So save your money and contribute it to organizations that fund research and educate people to lower their blood sugar to safe levels!
