I'm taking my dog, Pippin, a 13.5 yo basenji to the vet today to be put down. He is in kidney failure and hasn't kept anything down for 3 days. He's now refusing to eat. My husband wants to let nature take it's course, but I don't want Pippin to suffer (and he's obviously suffering now) AND I don't want my 9 year old to wake up with Pippin dead in bed with him!

Here's a photo of Pippin and Cooper in happier days.

Sorry to hear that. I don't have pets myself, but my cousin, who had two dogs until recently (and had 'em both for well over 10 years), suffered a lot when she had to put them down too. :(

Kirsten, I'm so sorry to hear about Pippin, how is Cooper handle it? We have two dogs too, I know how you are feeling, they are part of the family.

hi Kirsten,
I'm so sorry to hear the sad news. What a sweet picture of the two of them.

Gosh I've only just seen this post. I'm so sorry to hear about Pippin. Was Cooper able to deal with it? The death of a pet is so hard - I sometimes think people don't appreciate how difficult it can be.

Sorry for your loss. Dogs are such good friends. How is your son doing?
