There are so many people here, enduring so much, yet having a great attitude and a great outlook on life that is so encouraging to me. What are your personal motivators and things or habits that keep you going strong?

Well, it's been a long road. My turning point came when I got hip to the idea that this was a long-term relationship and I realized that the resentment and denial wasn't helping. I think acceptance has a lot to do with it. I changed my attitude. I made my condition my hobby. I did some education on my own, learned how to count carbs, got myself some tools to help and read "Using Insulin." Once I realized what was possible, it made dealing with the disease much easier. Now it's almost like we're roommates -- I'm cognizant of it, I manage it the best I can, and I forgive myself when something goes wrong. Every day is another opportunity to get it right. It also helps to have a community. It takes some practice and self-forgiveness. The more you do this and the better you get at it seems to help to remain positive about things. There are always those days that are just going to suck beyond the telling of it. Yesterday was one of those days. Had 2 lows over night, over treated the last one, woke up with a BG of 310. Got my BGs back in range and then nicked the pod on the door and it screamed at me. I had one replacement that didn't insert, the second one seemed to work until about 4 hours later when I realized my sugar was going up. Yesterday was a 3 pod day. We all have bad days. :)

Today is much better. :) Everything seems to be running like it should. Yesterday when I was getting tense about it all I had to remind myself to step back and not panic. And the truth be told, it wasn't all that bad. I got it together by the time I got to bed.

For me it has always been first my husband, then my kids, now it's my grandkids! Always want to be here for them no matter what! Their my whole life (well not really but they take up a big part of it) My oldest now 21 took Type 1 when she was 11 so I had to be there to show her how to do the d testing. Now she has given me 3 grandkids and well family is my thing.

I am trying to do things that get me out of the house, out of myself.

My love for my family and love for life!
I bury myself sometimes gardening, tinkering with collections (Vinyls, perfumes, trinkets), traveling, doing volunteer community works...=)

For me in the beginning once I started to learn what I needed to know, being one of an engineering mindset it became a project to get and maintain healthy BG levels, the thing that kept it interesting is there are some variables that you just can't provision for, such as stress and unplanned liver dumps of glucose. Once I established and was able to maintain control, I have a granddaughter that I would kind of like to hang around for as long as I can to keep me on the straight and narrow. It is interesting I am probably in better health now than I had been for the 10 or 15 years before being Dx'd. It helps that I have a wife who works with me, she has a real good knack at modifying recipes, if only I could get her out of the 'fats are bad' erroneous mindset, the media hammered that misinformation in deep.

Certainly this web site has been a motivator for me and was there when I had questions. Learning as much as I could about the D also has helped me alot. Having a diabetic mentor, even though I have never met him has also given me strength in tough times. My mentor is Dr Bernstein. I am a active member of his website and have learned alot and got a better understanding of the disease process in his books and audio broadcasts. Jenny Ruhel also has helped me alot to with her writings.

I constantly reinvent myself that's what has helped me through the years.
