My mom works at a very rural hospital. She called to tell me about a 7yo boy who was transported into the ER today and wound up being care flighted out. The diagnosis DKA. He was undx'd prior to this and came in seizing with an o2 sat of 52%. I felt bad for the kid and my mom knew all to well what this child's mom was going through. I have been saying prayers every since knowing what life will be like with the D. I was quite curious what it blood sugar was and was shocked when I found out it was only 348. I dont even bat an eye when mine is there. I may want to know what I did wrong. Sure I check for ketones when I am above 200 because I start making them quick, but my sugar has been quite higher than that recently and it barely affected me. I am sad that the boy will have to live with this for the rest of his life. I just cant believe he was in such a bad state at just 348. It makes you think. All of our bodies react differently to high blood sugars.
