hello fellow diabetics:)
OK,so as you know,i am type 1 diabetic,and Ive had it about 2 or 3 years.What you don't know,is how I found out...
I am 16 years old,and Ive have struggling with my weight since as long as I can remember. But,when I was about 141/2,i lost about nearly...30 pounds in 3 weeks.Nobody in my house really notice, and my dad actually thought I was taking drugs, and drinking water to lose weight. In the mean time, almost all of my teachers were worried, here i was 14 years old, losing insane amounts of weight at a dangerous pace!!And,as all this was going on...I started losing my eyesight.Did I mention that I'm not the greatest student in the world...so this whole time I was complaining my parents thought I was trying to get outta work.So the school nurse checked me out,and gave me a $400 certificate for glasses. My mom took me to Dr baileys office....NOTHING!!!He found nothing!!!So,i got some reading glasses, well duh, that didn't work!!!It wasn't til about 2 weeks later that my dad noticed gray clouds over my eyes.So he ran me out to the wal mart eye doctor, that's when we found out i had cataracts...he said cataracts aren't found in teenagers, unless they have diabetes,so i had to fast til the next day when they were gonna take me and get me tested at the clinic...BUT!my parents couldn't wait,so around midnight my dad ran out and got a cheapo glucometer and tested me,it was 507,so they called the hospital and took me out,i had high keytones, and was dehydrated.they then sent me to Riley in Indianapolis, over 76 miles from my home!!!

What an awful experience. It is always important to take someone's physical complaints seriously.

Wow that is scary. I am old but you may like my story. I was 14 and wetting the bed and thirsty and lossing weigth. The family Dr. said it was a light flu.....drink coke! The urologist said take this perscription to control you blatter. No blood sugar test suggested. I go into a coma at home. Ambulance takes me into the ER when I won't wake up. Mom and dad pray for my life. The ER Dr. smelled my breath and said get him on insulin STAT. Checked my bs and I was 1600!
