How could I forget my meter?! I never forget my meter. Ever. Last night I sat in the parking lot at the baseball park before the game started to bolus for the inevitable 1 or 2 hotdogs I was going to eat (it's a once a year treat for me). When I open my kit, my testing meter was missing. Thinking back, I realized I must have left it on my desk at work. Already starving, I knew I had to eat but I wasn't feeling low. But there was no way I was going to skip my insulin to cover my dinner at the park, so I blink bolused. Was it stupid? Probably. But I also knew that if I miscalculated and over bolused and went low at the ballpark, that there would be plenty of sugar around me (i.e. soda, cracker jacks, etc.) to bring back up again.
So, I took a guess as to what my BG was at the time of dosing, estimated how many hotdogs I would probably eat and then calculated my dose.
Turned out I was okay by the end of the game: 133 mg/dL.
Guess I got a little lucky.
My meter went straight back into my kit this morning when I got back into the office. Boy, I hope that never happens again!
