Diabetes and Dialysis #7 - Round 1 Is Over

Well I am sitting in my nice comfortable hospital room...okay, it's not nice. So I am sitting here in comfortable hospital...not buying that one either huh?

So I am here in my hospital room with a neck that is kind of achey and the first round of dialysis completed. Tolerated things okay it's just the cathader in my neck that is bothering me a little. But I am in my own jammies have internet so can't be all bad.

Got to my room after a morning of not eating with a BG of 62. That was after eating my lunch. Sooooo I got another lunch...yeah me. This one had strawberry shortcake and several other items that are not on the approved renal disease list. It was good. Hey Mikey...he likes hospital food.

And before some smart person asks about pain killers no I am not on any...yet.

So the first time through the dialysis center in the hospital wasn't all that bad. It helped that there was no one else in the place and my wife got to come with me. I also had to pee about halfway through my 2.5 hour session. Whew!! I can still pee y'all!!

Yes I know...TMI.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Trust me they were felt.

Round two tomorrow morning then I hope to get to break out of this place.

Hey Sparky, just want to let you know that you are truly an inspiration to all of us. Keeping you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers tonight. At least they let you wear your own jammies. :) Those hospital gowns are scary.

Much love to you, Sparky! Glad to see this whole fiasco hasn't dented your sense of humor :) Thanks for the update!

Sparky it is indeed GREAT that you are still producing urine. My doctor calls it "liquid gold". LOL.
Last summer I was in the hosp for a ruptured apleen that I got when I was hit by a little old lady who was not supposed to be driving. They brought me things that were not on the renal diet, plus extremely heavy in carbs, salt, and fat. Like Lasagne and orange juice. Give me a break. Why do we have to watch out for ourselves even when in the hospital?
Did they bring the dialysis machine into your room, or does the hospital have its own unit?
At this point I don't see any reason for you to be in pain. I never had any discomfort issues with the shoulder catheter - it was just annoying at first but I got used to it.
My thoughts are with you each and every minute. Tomorrow will be better than today.
Please keep us updated, my friend.

I don't know why I do Kathy, but there is quite a bit of discomfort. It hurt like hell when they pulled (I guess) the catheder from my neck to my chest. They pulled on it several times and I just think they bruised something. It is lessoning some as the evening goes on.

I told at least three separate people that I was allergic to coconut. What showed up for dessert? Chocolate cake with wonderful coconut icing.

And no...I did NOT pull the icing off and eat the cake. Although the thought did cross my mind. :)

Sparky, good for you, you got through it. the food situation in some hospitals is truly pathetic. will they let Sharon bring you something? I was praying for you all day yesterday. got up today also thinking strongly of you. you have family here that cares for you so much. let us know how it goes today.

Hi Sparky, I have been thinking about you! Glad you get to wear your own jammies. I just got out of the hospital and they did the same thing to me. First meal was filled with desserts, cake, cookies, all that stuff. It sure is weird to sit and look at that stuff while they find the ancient gluometer and figure out what insulin dose to give. It took them about an hour to do that.
You are on my mind. Sending positive healing vibes your way. Really appreciate your letting us know how things are going.

Whoa, the "pulled" on the catheter? Sh-t, that would hurt like hell!!! Maybe they pulled on mine, too, when I was first starting, but I was too out of it to know.
And what Lots said about the ancient glucometer was so funny. The one they used on me took an entire minute to get results. Go figure.
