Dia-Beatles Number 2

One of the best blogs on TUdiabetes is the one termed Dia-Beatles. It was started by MelissaBL and it is so much fun. Thanks to Marie (who knows all the blogs and discussions) I was able to track it down from 2009. Here is the link:

It is so good it is worth a read if you love Beatles lyrics. It demonstrated the creativity of the community. I loved it. Ok well I love the Beatles so it was a natural fit for me.

Yesterday as I was driving to a doctor’s appointment and the Beatles song ‘In My Life’ came on the radio. As I listened to it I was immediately, for some reason, pushed back to the discussion about Dia-Beatles. So I penned some new lyrics for it and I am reposting some lyrics form one my adaptions

For those not familiar the Dia-Beatles you think if it as the Beatles song with new diabetic centric lyrics. Here is the one I penned yesterday and I hope you will be inclined to join the fun and try your hand at the lyrics.

In my dialife

There are highs and lows that I remember
All my dialife I’ve had them all
Some are lower not for better
Some have high and some good
All these times have their moments
With highs and lows I still can recall
Some are clear and some are foggy
In my life I've had them all

But of all these high and lows
There is none that compares with the one I had today
And these lows lose their memories
When I think of lows as something to remember
Though I know I'll never lose their meaning
For highs and lows that still to come
I know I'll often stop and try to remember
In my life I have some more

In my life I will more of them and I hope they will be ok
Though I know I'll never lose my insulin
Or the highs and lows that went before
I know I'll often stop and try not to let them happen

In my life I will have some more

Here is a reprint of lyrics I placed in the Dia-Beatles discussion. I hope one of the two will inspire you to try your hand. This is great fun and don’t be afraid to repeat a lyric, we can all borrow, but work on being original as well:

“The Ballad of Rocky Raccoon Diabetic’

Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota
There lived a young diabetic named Rocky Raccoon
And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young Rocky in the eye Rocky didn't like that
He said I'm gonna get that boy
So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon.

Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find an insulin needle
Rocky had come equipped with a meter
To test the blood sugar of his rival
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy.

Her name was Magil and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as nurse Nancy.
Now she and her man who called himself doctor Dan
Were in the next room at the screening
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said Danny boy this is a showdown
But Daniel was hot-he had insulin in his shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner.

The pump rep came in, stinking of gin,
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, pump man it's only a scratch
And I'll be better I'll be better when my blood sugar is able.

Now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room

Only to find an insulin needle

The pump man checked out and he left it no doubt

To help with good Rocky's revival.

Here is a wonderful video posted by Bobby of the regular Beatles lyrics performed in a special way:
