Okay, I'm English as the majority of you must be aware, also you'll probably know that I'm seriously passionate about football (soccer if thats what you thinks appropriate).. Therefore the 31st July 2009 was a really sad day for me. Sir Bobby Robson died, if you don't know who he is he's one of the greatest minds of English football. One of the best managers and player we've ever been blessed to have. He died of cancer, after defeating it 4 times previously. For 16 years of his life he battled the disease that so many of us have witnessed in one way or another.

Can you even begin to imagine that? I know we all here have a disease that is never going to go away, a disease that has the potential to kill us while taking our sight, sense of feeling and ability to walk away not to mention our dignity. That in itself is a struggle, let alone coping with constantly changing numbers, change in the weather, exercise regime or stress, the beings of eveyday life. Every change resulting in an upset to numbers, numbers that all in all add up to our fate 10 - 15 years down the line. A harsh reality, but greatfully we have medication that works, a chance and hope to a bright future.

So is it only me who finds it hard to even begin to comprehend 16 years of your life not sure from day to day if that is going to be your last. Not sure whether this time the medication is going to work, even if it does work there always being that risk of it returning. Having to wait in fate that you have no control over. When we have a bad number we can correct it, he couldn't, his family couldn't. Almost planning your death, while still trying to carry on with some sort of normality. Everything soo out of your control.. Crazzzzzzzzzzy!

I think what I'm trying to get at is we should be greatful we have so many amazing resources around us that allow us to have some sort of control over out fate. I understand the days when it gets overwhelming, and we just want to give up. That it doesn't always go the way we want it to. But from now on my inspiration is going to be this man, because throughout his struggle he raised awareness and raised money to help others. Never at one point did he show the sign of giving up, he carried on with his charity. Raising money and awareness, aswell as still maintaining his passion for football.

Godddd I can't ever imagine being that strong, being able to plow through those hard times continuously.. But maybe if he can do it, perhaps we all can too. Hopefully =) Just need to remeber theres always someone worse off than us.

Just one man that gives me the greatest hope ever <3

I am not quite sure , how to respond ...coming from the Netherlands I know how you and I feel about soccer ...I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1984 , shortly after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes( 1983 ) . I had a modified mastectomy and married my Honey and best supporter in 1985 ...Diabetes kills more people globally than Aids /HIV, cancer , heart attack and stroke . My passion is and has been to support a cure for Diabetes , through fund and awereness raising , including with the polititians , to be able to have in my Canada people wear an insulin pump , so that there is quality of life as it has been bettered for me , when I became a pumper . And yes, I still love soccer .
