Exciting time in Salmon Arm and diabetes made me do it !

The link has lots of interesting information .....
http://www.itsallaboutwomen.ca/
I will join the Conference and Gala event ( Hubby will join this part as well ) on Saturday January 28th 2012 for what has become the premier event for Women in the Shuswap Okanagan area. A Fund Raiser for S.A.F.E. Society

This is the award someone in Salmon Arm nominated me for : The Kay Braby Community Spirit Award Sponsored by Braby Motors
This award recognizes an outstanding woman who inspires and mentors others through involvement in voluntary community programs or organizations, or philanthropic endeavours. She has shown her dedication by creating, participating in or adapting programs to meet community needs in the areas of social services, community building and human rights.

The nominator wrote in her letter about my life and the diabetes involvement . 2 letters of support are required ...I found out , that one has been completed by a Funeral Director ...this made me laugh !!

Please send your good mantra this way ..and thanks a million

It is great that your community has recognized you - nel - for your voluntary work and your enthusiasm. In my opinion this is far more important than the award itself but I am still pressing my thumbs.

Thank you friends for your empowering comments. That darn Rogers Pass , Anthony during winter time ! Holger , your feelings same as mine ...it's not only the Award , however a great way to advocate for all PWD . I was nominated last year as well by the same lady , one has to attend and Hubby and I had planned a trip to Mauii ...this year will leave mid Feb for a warmer vacation :)

An exciting day at the Conference , however the 2 am low BG ( 2.2 x18 ) and needing to change my nightie because it was soaked did put" a bit " of a damper on it for me .A low like that has not happened in a longggg time , rebound to 12 ( x 18), followed by a 15( x18 )BG ..lots of H2O and voiding ; finally at 6 pm ish about 4.5 ( x18 )with insulin on board, took one Dex ( hence the DEX4 in the picture). I got to share the podium with 5 other interesting nominees(3 categories ) The other lady in my category won the award ...unfortunately she had to be hospitalized just prior . A lady sitting at a table over shared , that she knows of a family with 3 kids in another community and 3 kids wearing an insulin pump . I can't imagine the stress they are going through 24/7/365 . And more awarenss raised for S.A.F.E. Society ( Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society)!!! The organizers did an awesome job...Hubby and I danced...BG's fine by now .
